I actually sold my DVD extended box set as soon as the blu-ray set was announced, so I personally am very happy that the original documentaries and other special features are being included. I definitely plan to watch them again as I go through the trilogy.

If they put all of the DVD features on one BD, it'd be more expensive because it costs more for them to burn BDs instead of just having 3 DVDs. It's also seen as a waste because all of the features aren't in HD and people would complain about the "low quality" of the Blu-ray disc.

And while those who already own the Extended Editions ae upset that they must buy the same special features again, it'd be easier to sell your EE DVDs and buy the Blu-ray than have people buy LOTR Extended WITHOUT any special features and then buy two more DVD versions of LOTR EE.
AMEN! PREACH IT! That's exactly how I feel.

A true fan. I can't go to that extreme, but I am planning on watching the Fellowship TE and EE to see if there are any noticeable improvements from the remastering.

I'm not even going to do the full-body viewing for the TE, but I will do a quick comparison of a few of the less good sequences from FOTR and see what the difference is. I imagine WB might actually get it right this time - hopefully.

I do recall that I didn't think the TE of the DVD's looked all that swell. The EE's always looked a crapload better to me, so I imagine the same thing will happen here.

why not just watch the movies in a reasonable manner?
that would be fatiguing, not enjoyable.

Not yet, and given the amount of discs, I'd doubt it. Maybe if/when the films get individual releases there will be steelbooks.

I just watched my TE BD's a couple weeks ago, the next week I watched the EE DVD's, probably going to have a similar marathon in June. After some personal stuff that caused me to set the books down in the middle of TTT for quite a few months, I've picked them back up and Aragorn and company have now taken The Paths of the Dead... you could say I have Lord of the Rings FEVER right now in anticipation of the EE on BD...
