"Green is good." - Gordon Gekko, Wall Street

Close enough.

Yeah, I see it in a few places, but the best way to notice is to pay close attention to Frodo's eyes. In most of the first film, they're bright blue, but in some scenes they're much greener (like when Merry & Pippin realize he's leaving the Fellowship).

Genuine question, Debbie, or is this what we call in my country "stirring the possum"?

If it's a genuine question, then yes, all copies are like that. According to WB, it's a colour shift that was added to the EE transfer of Fellowship in an attempt to fix colour timing issues that arose in post-production of the film before its cinema release. Based on discussions on this thread and other forums, some people can't see the differences; some people can see them but aren't bothered by them; and some people can see them and feel they're not an acceptable solution to the problems. Either way, WB has essentially said "Th-th-th-that's all, Folks!" — clearly, WB feels the subject is closed, and we can either like it or lump it. The ensuing debate's been long-lasting and sometimes a bit heated, with no resolution in sight for either the debate or the technical issues.

Of course not every copy is like this... WB likes to release many different versions of their blu-ray discs for the fun of it with different tinting. some of them are tinted red, some tinted blue, others green. My friend's LOTR blu-rays image is tinted plaid which is really unusual but highly collectable. Looks like you just happened to pick up a green copy. Keep buying more and eventualy you'll find one that suits your taste. It's one of the fun things about blu-ray discs... even when manufactured from the same factory they're all different... pretty neat!

Haha, epic response, lol!

To answer this person regardless of how serious they were, before certain parts of the thread were wiped out, it did seem like some people were still quite sure that there MUST have been a 'bad batch' of discs, since they were personally not able to tell the difference (even though they WOULD if they just A/B'd the theatrical with the extended):

Yes. EVERY disc is the same. There were no 'bad batches', just a decision that was supposedly made to 'enhance' the look of the film. Peter Jackson has NEVER said anything in regards to this release... only the studio who have said this represents the color timing that was intended, but of course, the studio would probably say anything they needed to in order to stave off a replacement program.

There is a switch off option on the Fellowship BD for the sunglass mode?!

The master used during the cinema presentation last June was used for the BD. Before it began, Jackson said it's the best Fellowship has ever looked. That's a tacit admission of approval. Before I went to see it, I studied the comparisons of Bag Ends' door. I had those images firmly in my mind to compare to what I saw on the big screen.

I liked the LotR trivia that was played before the film.

But, I will go ahead and repost the comparisons I made that prove that it wasn't a blanket tint, that some scenes have been completely improved over the theatrical edition.

Now, for some comparisons on detail that was gained with the new master. I'll take more detail any day, even if it includes this change in color.

You don't have to educate me on the issue, friend. I personally prefer the look on the EE. One thing that still confuses me, is how the green tint on the end credits just stop mid-credit roll, going back to white. Seems kind of sloppy if a green tint wasn't intended.

Yeah, if you watch through it, you'll notice a switch from the 'green white' (which some have said that Photoshop does not even recognize as white) to a normal white. That's really the only thing about the whole presentation that boggles my mind.

Just wondering if anyone that may have purchased this recently got a copy without the digital copy codes. Didn't see any codes in the copy I picked up from Best Buy last week. Thanks!

That's weird. I would take it back and see if you can get another set. It's an insert so if it's not in the cases or between them or stuck to the side then yeah definitely. Or you can contact WB but good luck with that. They expire in December.

I remember someone posting a picture of the set recently on here (probably got deleted from the outage, though) and he said that it looked like a no digital copy version

Regarding the digital copies, didn't a new release come out late May? I seem to recall it being mentioned and it was noted that although the packaging was the same it didn't include the digital copy codes. Sounds like lordmorpheus72 got one of the new batch.

DAMN IT!!! They missed a very important special feature which should have been included in this amazing Extended Edition set of the films...

How long can YOU last?

[Show spoiler]After a couple hours of this, I think I'm starting to HEAR a green tint!!!

I think that's the case, should've paid more attention when I bought it. Too bad I already opened it, wonder if Best Buy would exchange them out (if I was lucky enough to find one with them)?

Thanks for all the replies!
