Here's what Robert Harris, over at HTF has had to say, so far:

" I'm not going to be able to find the time to view all of these.
That said, if someone would care to give me timecodes from previous releases, I'd be happy to give things a quick look.

As far as the same footage being used in multiple films for flashbacks, since I don't know the filmmakers, I'm unable to say that they didn't want things a certain way. Or it could be an error. Not an expert on these films. Far too new.
So far I'm very pleased. "

WTF?

banana.

I can't wait for Kenny's review on this site; he put more research and care into his review of the TE blu than I ever expected.

Jackson said in the intro to Fellowship at the cinema that the remaster is the best it has ever looked, and we did indeed see the new master. A "rare event" he called it because we got to see the remastered version. It looks marvelous.

Did it have the "Green" tint to it?

The new master looks outstanding on the big screen. I didn't notice a massive green tint to much of anything except for Bag end's door. I can tell you that it looks much better than the provided screenshots.

Is the green as extreme as in this comparison video? If the blu ray is as bad as this comparison video, it is completely ****ed IMO........please tell me it did not look like this!

I was not that green. At all. Also, I did not see the blue tint to Gandalf's beard when he met with Saruman.

I actively search for it while the scene was playing out. I couldn't place it. I did the same thing with Frodo in the woods at the beginning, with the yellow. It was not as bad as the screens.

Did it look more like the new colors, or the original?

Yup , couldn’t have said it better myself.
Although, to be perfectly honest, if the Director has had a prior good working relationship with the digital colorist, Directors then tend to choose the same digital colorist for future projects (if the next feature goes thru the same post house) and they sort of get on the same wavelength as to what the Director and/or DP desires/likes and that *history* cuts down on the need for his physical presence during the entirety of the timing sessions.

Also, if the same colorist was key-holed to do the dallies as well as the feature film itself, then that also tends to streamline things as the primary grade was already done by a colorist intimately familiar with the project.

I don't recall what the original looked like. I haven't seen the DVDs in years and I traded mine in when I made the upgrade to Blu-ray. Some scenes look like the screens posted here, but not as bad color-wise. Perhaps this is because it was projected on a large screen and of course the resolution was much higher?

Well if you’ve got good eyes, there’s folks' answer.

If the screenshots previously provided accurately reflect the Blu-ray rendition then……well, something went wrong in the production of the home media product.

Like it or not, to those on one side of the fence or the other...case solved. The *tint* of the theatrical digital cinema version should not significantly differ from thee home media product.

I just got back from seeing Lord of the Rings 'The Fellowship of the Ring'. It was nice seeing this film at the theater again. I am curious if the introduction by Peter Jackson will be on the Blu-ray. Also they played the fan club credits and I saw my name I am also curious if they will play the fan club credits on the other 2 Lord of the Rings films.

I saw the new master tonight at the theater too.
It did look more green than the DVDs, but it wasn't very noticeable.
If I had to compare, I'd say the colors looked about halfway between the TE BD and the EE rip.

Putting color timing aside (which I was more than fine with), let me just say I was very impressed by the Theatrical presentation tonight. I had been told to brace myself for a very bad experience, courtesy of Fathom Events. But the Digital Picture and Sound quality were both very high-grade. Can't wait for next week!

I just got through reading the review that Bill Hunt (thedigitalbits.com) gave regarding the extended editions on bluray and he mentioned that the films look amazing. For further info, you should really read his review, you will not be disappointed, and now more than ever, I cannot wait until I get my hands on my copy...
