An online-only release for LOTR seems kinda fishy... Even if these were in sweet steelbooks and had 30 page color booklets i couldn't justify 30$ for these movies considering how long they've been out for and how many past units have already sold. Such a tease.

I own the trilogy bluray box set of the theatrical editions, and I can't complain about the transfer/picture quality - it is SUPERB! I'm waiting for a new release that has a proper encode without the terrible color issues (it IS noticable, most scenes i've seen screen capture comparisons of show all color GONE in some instances on the Extended Edition Blu's!!!)

The material on those discs amounts to the greatest supplemental material ever assembled for DVD/Blu-ray - and I'm not using hyperbole.

Could the material have been put on a single Blu-ray instead of the old 3 DVDs - yes, I grant you that. But it doesn't take away from the quality of the material - and it's great that those who are buying these versions for the first time will be able to experience what the documentaries have to offer.
Completely agree. I find every second of the extras to be interesting and wonderful. The thought of editing down the 18 hours (!) of stuff we have in the Appendices down to a four hour documentary is a horrible one to me. Would it be a great documentary? Sure but it would be missing so, so much.

Plus it's brilliant being able to skip to features on specific parts of the filmmaking process rather than having it all edited together into one jumble covering every aspect of all three films.

If a member wants to be them individually, that is there choice and personal preference. While you may be correct that it is cheaper to get the boxed set, the way you are presenting it isn't helping your argument. Because at the moment he's not the only one that needs to "lose the damn attitude.".
Wait.... ummm... WHAT?!?!?!

Did you even read the conversation from the start? I simply pointed out that it was funny people still didn't know that all 3 EE Blu-rays could be purchased for less than the 3 individually. That other person went off like a rocket ship. I consequently tried to explain myself in a civil manner and they continued to be rude and turning my words into something that they were never meant to be.

So, I don't see why I'm the one who is being singled out in this situation. I only reached the point I did after several attempts at calmly handling the situation. Hell, I even went so far as to use the exact words at one point that I understand they are free to purchase the films as they see fit and that I have never criticized anyone for their choices in the matter.

I'm half expecting an apology since I have not deserved to be turned into a monster over this situation. I tried damn hard to let that person know that my intentions were neither vicious nor critical and that I was simply making it known that, in light of their "I refuse to spend $100 for the boxset" comment, there are options to acquire the item for $60 or less.

Seriously right now.

Not that anyone asked my opinion but I thought Petra handled the guy extremely well, much better than I would have done. I see the guy's point but he was being a huge, OTT, childish dick about it.

See? None of his comments were aimed at me and I've still responded worse than Petra did!

I know no one asked for my opinion either, but Petra did handle the situation way better than I would have.

The guy was a complete ass. I've met toddlers that whine less than that.

They're having a 40% off select BDs this week. The LOTR sets are $20.99 each.

Yes, I read the entire back and forth between the two of you. Keep in mind, I don't disagree with you for trying to save the member some cash. It is how you kept egging them on. You made your point, move on. Instead you kept beating your point with someone who clearly didn't want to be reasoned with. I don't know why, but this seems to be a common issue with you when it comes to the LOTR extended sets for some reason. I can understand being passionate about something to a certain degree. By the time your back and forth was over both of you were sounding like a couple of children bickering though. Sorry, but part of being an adult is getting your point across without being obnoxious about. Otherwise, folks are just going to blow off whatever you have to say in the future.

Any chance both parties involved in this ongoing feud could possibly cram it? We're patiently waiting for a minor cosmetic confirmation about the packaging of these Blu-Ray releases. kthx

I gotta back up Petra on this one. He clearly did not intend disrespect in his original post, and even after clarifying his position several times and reiterating that he just wanted to make him aware of a better deal (but ultimatley didn't care how Basket Case man spent his money), the guy continues to be whiny toddler about the whole thing. Basket Case's responses revealed that he was not at all trying to reach reasonable ground . I don't think I've ever come across someone on a message board with such a thin skin.

Anyway, I thought it was good for a laugh

Best Buy isn't carrying these in store. I doubt Target is either.
