I was just doing some "scoping around" and apparently, as of right now, only Canada seems to have a non-3D Hobbit EE Trilogy release listed. Everywhere I checked (Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk because those are really the only ones I shop online from) only list a 3D set.

Being shot digitally has nothing to do with it. I have seen many films shot with traditional film that look better than most digital films.

The US does too, I have it pre-ordered. The page is just down right now for whatever reason.

Yeah but it looks 10 times more photoshopped than LOTR.

Ok well my tv looked worse after I used one. I think the "game" setting makes things look perfect on my tv honestly. Except that last two Harry Potter films. They look darker and hazier than I'd like.

The "game" setting almost surely has boosted color, cooler color temp and a high backlight compared to a proper "movie" or "cinema" mode. Of course, if that's what you like then you should enjoy it. Some care about accuracy and some don't.

That's because they used far more green screen and CGI than they did in the LOTR films. Peter Jackson could learn a thing or two from George Miller.

Even the location shots had the environments digitally manipulated resulting in the whole movie having an "airbrushed" look. Like the rapids chase in DOS had quite a few on-location shots in it, but every one of them except for the fleeting Go Pro shots were painted over. Digital trees were added, the real trees were colored and altered, and the sky was painted over, and the horizon was changed.

I don't think it's ugly per se, but it clashes with the visuals of LOTR and looks like a digital environment.

I can't go more than 1 year without doing an EE marathon in one sitting. How could you go that long without watching any of the versions?!?!

You should watch movies, like... when you feel like watching them. That's a big reason we own them in the first place, eh?

The popular titles have stayed high on VUDU as well. The Star Wars saga is still $100.

I did home disc to digital for FOTR and TTT EE (I got ROTK at Big Lots so didn't need to bother with that one), because I did more than 9 DVDs at once it came down to $2.50 each. I prefer the theatrical cuts, which I have on Blu, but with the EE Blu-rays not being very affordable I figured I'd settle for HDX on the first two.
