Honestly $60 or under for this set is a steal.

And look, right now it’s $44.49.

Yeah, I love UHD but as soon as I hear a hint of a 4k remaster I feel like I cant watch the BD anymore. Frustrating sometimes!

No hint of these yet though.

Its going to be atleast 3 years before these are released. And once released, I will not be surprised if it’s only the theatrical versions first and then extended a year later. Hopefully I’m wrong and both are released on 4K at the same time. The extended versions are my favorite.

I bought TLOTR set when it was $25 a few weeks ago. So glad I was finally able to pick it up at such a great price. Holding out to buy the Hobbit EE Set whenever I can get it for around $25.

Same, Got this when it was on sale too. I'd do the same for the Hobbit EE Trilogy if and only if it's the thick Box with the magnetic seal similar to LOTR's, I've seen the box set a few times but it's the thin flimsy box though.

HA!

I think the reasoning behind the several people I've seen saying "3 years", is that that's about when Amazon's LOTR series is supposed to drop (I thought that was 2020, but...).

And while Amazon's series has nothing to do with Peter Jackson's studio or his trilogy, it's still pretty common for studios to re-release their stuff to capitalize on the hype from the new project. I really don't wanna wait that long (especially when Harry Potter has seen UHD discs and a couple different gift sets already), but, I also wouldn't put it past Warner to do that.

Warner are more random with catalog titles than some of the other studios. They did Matrix now, despite rumors of a reboot. They'll likely do LotR when Jackson has time to offer input and when it makes sense on their internal calendar.

2021 would be the 20th anniversary so perhaps then.

I've been waiting for that sale all year, I can't believe I missed it. I've checked online regularly, but apparently I didn't look good enough .

I thought about tracking down some blu-rays, but then with the likelihood of them doing a big fancy UHD set and all that at some point on down the road, it seemed like the most economical option was to do disc to digital with my extended DVDs and just wait. So I got the whole set in extended HD for 16 bucks.

At that price, I can deal with the green.

There used to be a place to download the booklets or something that someone did, but I can't remember where. Does anyone know?

Knowing how the greedy studios operates, i would not be surprise at all if they release just the theatrical version in 4K.

Wouldn't a greedy studio want you to buy both the theatrical AND extended versions...?

Yep. They’ll release BOTH at the same time...plus The Hobbit Theatricals and Extended trilogy sets...plus a huge set with all The Hobbits and LOTR Theatrical & Extended on 4K

I can already see it happening.

Wouldn’t a studio realize that by not releasing the Extended Cuts they will lose money. Not everyone wants the theatrical cuts. The only way I’ll getbthe those cuts is if they are included imwith the extended cuts.

Doubt the theatricals and extendeds happen at the same time, otherwise people will just buy the one version they want. Theatricals first, extendeds later (maybe a year). And yeah, I'll probably buy all four sets lol
