Blind bought it. Enjoyed the cinematography as well as most if not all of the performances by the cast (Smith, Winstead, and Owen in particular were all great in their roles to me). Action scenes were well choreographed, exciting to watch and held my interest throughout. The story and writing aren't anything exceptional but got the job done. Overall thought this was a fantastic movie, it doesn't do anything better or worse than what has come before it but sometimes I don't mind more of the same as long as it's done well. Gemini Man, sort of like yummy comfort food, in that sense delivered in spades.
As for the PQ -- first and foremost am a 24fps and grain loving guy but am also overall very format agnostic; love 3D, crispy clean digital, and find myself enjoying native HFR titles as well (previously enjoyed Billy Lynn and a couple of nature docs via German UHD imports for Namibia and Planet 4K) -- Gemini Man looked fantastic to me in 60 fps. I couldn't spot any major anomalies as well with compression and near black while watching on the C6, I did perhaps see some slight banding in a few of the night time skies but nothing major at all. This is a reference disc as far as PQ is concerned it looks really good to me. It's too bad this lost so much money at the box office and was panned overall by critics, to me it deserved better, imo. I want to watch it again this weekend with my family with the volume turned up to reference to get a better sense of the audio quality. |

Yeah, wil lfor sure get the 3d for it eventually. Initially wanted to get the German 4K + 3D combo but got impatient and decided to go for the domestic standalone UHD. Now have the DE 3D standalone on my wishlist but may wait for a slight price drop before getting it.

I only picked this up to experience the "new" technology. I went in expecting a dumpster fire, but the film was surprisingly passable. It's a decent way to spend two hours of you're in the mood for a popcorn action flick, which I certainly was after watching several hard hitting films in a row. There are some decent set pieces and the premise isn't terrible. You have to suspend some disbelief since they could have drone striked old Will Smith since he was being tracked. I guess the bad guy was "crazy" and needed Junior to pass a test by killing old Will Smith though. I think the movie would have been better if they skipped the electronic tracker. Then Clive Owen's character would have needed Junior because he could track Henry since Junior is the top agent and he'd know how Henry thinks. Then the filmmakers could put Henry in foreign locations where the United States can't just drone strike willy-nilly or send in a strike team and the plot of needing Junior to track and kill Henry suddenly makes a lot more sense. You'd also have a much more intersting cat and mouse thriller aspect. Instead of getting a great plot we get a fine for what it is plot. What really holds this film back is the poorly written dialogue and unnecessary exposition though.
Onto the tech side, the PQ is great. Everything is crisp and colors really pop. This is possibly a top 10 disk. I think that the HFR enhances some action scenes like the bike chase (possibly the highlight of the film) but it also made some of the effects work look a little more unrealistic. Overall, I think it did add to the film though. Panning shoots and fast camera movement looked gorgeous when at 24 fps you'd normally get a blurry and juddery image. Based on this presentation I think there's certainly a place for HFR in the movie industry especially since filmmakers will only get better as they become more experienced with the technology. My only nitpick with the PQ is that there were a few times when I thought the highlights from light sources could have popped a bit more. The audio seemed good, but I only have a 5.1 setup. Channel separation was good and dialogue was clear. It maybe didn't give my system quite the workout I would hope for during some of the action sequences though. Overall I'd give it a recommendation if you're in the mood for a dumb action movie and you enjoy a movie for having good PQ. If you don't like dumb action movies and you don't care much about the HFR or great PQ then stay far away. |

I'd never needed 4K/60p playback before and it never interfered with 24p, so I left it off because it was irrelevant.

I saw clips of the 60fps without the color distortion... it kept going in and out and what I saw looked 3Dish in a way like the characters were going to jump out of the TV. Once I figure out how to turn off DV I'll probably go back and have another look... |

Is there no DV on/off toggle in the player? I don't do LG spinners so I wouldn't know. BUT if your player's HDMI video output is routed thru the soundbar then it might be worth connecting the player to the TV directly.

Yes the player runs thru the soundbar and then into the TV. I may go with the direct connection and see if that solves the problem. |

![]() Speaking of Beebe though it's interesting that he mentions his experience on Collateral in the AC article for Gemini Man. Not that it informed what he did but that he felt much the same way, that Collateral was his first digital feature and he was having to almost re-learn his craft in the process, so working in 120fps 3D gave him a similar vibe of starting anew. |

Watched this last night. To put it bluntly: this disc is must-own tech if you care about home theater. What an amazing experience.
HFR is almost like a whole new visual medium. I really hope other filmmakers begin experimenting with it. |
