I would bet money most of these issues are because of the HDMI cable. Anything over 6 foot probably needs to be an active cable to get full bandwidth unless you just get lucky with a perfect cable.

A 24p 4K disc isn't even close to using the full 18gbps bandwidth so even a crappy HDMI cable will generally work. With a 4k/60 fps disc it will be using the full bandwidth of the cable so that is when problems with it will arise. |

Which model OLED is it? Turn off DV in the player. (Also see what happens if you bypass the AVR and connect the HDMI from the player directly to the TV, should you have it wired into the AVR first.) Then you should get 4K60, albeit in HDR10. |

To go back to the discussions earlier in the thread about what happens to what if the TV/signal chain can't handle 4K60 DV, I was right that the frame rate would be preserved but wrong that it would default to 4K60 HDR10.
It looks like DV playback is still the default output mode if the disc detects that all elements in the chain are DV compatible but it can't do 4K60 DV, so instead of reverting to the HDR10 base layer it runs the DV in the next lowest compatible resolution instead e.g. 1080p60. |

Correct. BUT if someone set their player to Auto for things like bit depth and colour space then it may well have output Billy Lynn's at 4K60 12-bit 4:2:2 anyway, my OPPO did last night when playing the aforementioned UHD into the ZD9 and it was utterly glitch-free.

I ordered a new cable as a test, in case the two I tried weren’t adequate.

I just finished watching the disc in its entirety.
Happy to report the second hour of the disc is just as strong as the first hour encoding wise. But not only that, the second hour is filled with some visually spectacular set pieces, which for the most part, show that blockbuster/VFX-heavy action sequences can be conveyed very well through HFR. The catacombs sequence in Budapest is really, really impressive. Also, the final act where Ninja Junior comes into play has some really jaw-dropping HDR sprinkled in, with some really cool looking slow-motion shots that play really well in HFR. I also ended up enjoying this film quite a lot. Even the cheesy ending. Usually films of this type, that deal with clones, almost always end in some ambiguous or even somber note. It was nice to get something [Show spoiler] And I can't stress it enough how good Dion Beebe's photography is in this film. I hope he does something like this again. Whether it's reuniting with Lee or not. Beebe shows he has a very good handle on how to make this format work, IMO. |

Ok, so holy shit moment. In one of my prior post, I forgot to compare this type of cinematography to when Michael Mann began shooting in his style of digital, which also seems to be an acquired taste for people--and again, it works for me. But I did not know that Beebe was the DOP for 'Collateral', which is probably my favorite Mann film.
This dude just might be the king of the digital format. |

Was totally surprised at how great this was! Probably my favorite action film of last year, in fact.

I had the same 1080p/60p playback issue.
My panny goes through my reciever, then to my TV. So I dug into the settings on my Panny and ended up switching the setting "4K60P Output" from "Off" to "4K/60p(4:4:4)" and that solved it for me. The film was playing in 3840x2160/60p at 12 bit color depth, with Atmos. I left the "24p Output" setting on auto. I checked and even with the "4K60P" setting changed, 24p content was still outputted at 24p, and 60p content is outputted 60p. Best of both worlds |

that has me worried, to purchase the disc tomorrow or not. To unhook the LG player and hook up my Sony player to the receiver/TV is a major hassle.
