I hope that is sarcasm!

The nature of the image though is secondary above to my observations. Just the whole direction camera work and composition and style. I just found it a shock. If I was back in the 90s, channel surfing, and stumbled across this on NBC or CBS, I wouldn't have been surprised. But he directed one of the IMHO pivotal comic book movies that added a level of style and such a personal artistic presence was evident... I thought he felt like an upcoming auteur. And to see this? It was jarring.

The only reason I haven't gone with a projector is because I want Dolby Vision and HDR 10+

Just a horrific looking movie though looked and felt like a .made for tv telemovie. If this was something made for a boring advertisement ridden last century network station, I would not be surprised. Not just the frame rate, but the lighting and too clean digital look, plus overly sharoened. And camera movement, composition, etc was just to me cheap and soulless. And the action was just comical. It was just such a shock. I can't believe it is the same dude who directed Hulk, which I love from so many aspects. I hate dumpling on movies, but I'm honestly in a bit of shock.
Is it possible that your HDMI cable can't handle the bandwidth?

You won’t miss any of that when you switch to a PJ. Trust me. You’ll be surprised how bright the HDR can get on a 120” screen.

There could be several reasons for not going with a projector, the lack of DV (let alone HDR10+ ) should not be one of them however.

You either go with Sony or JVC (though in all honesty, JVC has the upper hand right now) and get one of the Panasonic UHD players, and you're in for quite an experience.

Does the JVC do a good job with HFR?

Watching this now

HFR is such an odd duck to me. On the one hand it’s definitely more realistic, I mean it literally looks like someone is filing with a cell phone. So on that point it draws you in more
But on the other hand it just looks like video, not film. The Hobbit looked like a play filmed by the BBC. I give kudos to Ang Lee, but if this is the future then the shots and acting has to change. Will Smith strangely fits HFR very well. Credit his naturalness on camera. But a lot of the acting style just looks ridiculous. Same with the angles. It’s gotta change for HFR to be viable

Well my wife wanted to see this, it was in Target’s B2G1 free, and I had some credit so I picked this up. Watching it was like my own personal hell but early on I learned to stop trying to enjoy the movie and just let my eyes glaze over and enjoy the candy. I can’t overstate my dislike of HFR but the colors here are legitimately stunning (my eyes were bugging out during the first prince vs prince encounter) and the lighting at times was very pleasing. I really liked the night scene at the marina—the light sources contrasting with those rich blacks was striking.

I’m a gamer and I’ve always been a bit of a graphics junkie and that part of me was able to enjoy the experience of this 4K/60fps Dolby Vision presentation. I’ll still have to watch the BD to know if I really like the movie. This just felt like a tech demo. I don’t ever want to watch another HFR movie.

MEW gets 5 stars, though.

i might pick this up if i can find it cheap. have rented it a couple times to really take in the hfr.
good action to fill some time, and i think had they given it a little bit more cyber-punk edge it would've been better.

also, to anyone still complaining about hfr. just go on and enjoy the japanese jav blu ray scene, they've been loving that 60fps for a while, and it works in that tantalizing medium .

I wish we had more HFR movies!
I was disappointed when Hobbit wasn't released to Blu-ray with HFR.

Even though I’m not convinced it’s the future I was disappointed too. I acquired the second movie through other means in a simulated HFR and it scratched the itch. Nowhere near as smooth as native but still looked wild. Smaug in 48fps is pretty crazy

Got my zoom copy today

edit:

Watched it last night, the movie itself was pretty average but I quite enjoyed the 60fps once my eyes got used to it.

I watched the 3D Blu Ray at the weekend. really enjoyed the movie, very entertaining with great action and some stunning locations. The 3D is a blast too, you can tell Ang framed everything with 3D in mind.

It was patently obvious that the movie had been shot at a higher frame rate though, even though the 3D Blu Ray is obviously in 24fps, you can tell that the original footage is a higher frame rate. What i found interesting was, in watching it with my wife, she said the movement/ motion during the action scenes looked a bit off, like it was too fast. I know what she means and it's certainly evident during some of the fight scenes where both characters are CG.

After we watched the movie, i showed her the youtube clip of the bike chase that is presented in 60fps and she said that looked a lot better than the 24fps 3D disc we had just watched, in terms of movement and motion etc. Funny how we all see things differently as obviously the HFR is not for everybody but when the movie has been shot that way, for some it looks better that way? I'm looking forward to picking up the 4K UHD after a price drop as it's preferable to have both versions IMO.
