But, in case anyone wants a trick to disable the HFR on the UHD, then if they have an OPPO player turn off the Dolby Vision and set the Custom Resolution to UHD 24. This won't force the disc in 24p because 24 into 60 doesn't go, instead it chucks away half the frames and plays it at 30p instead. It now looks a hell of a lot like more conventional content when it comes to motion blur, though still a touch smoother than 24p of course. This works in HDR10, not Dolby Vision.

SO, last week I had a couple of cousin's over to show off my new TV. Neither one of them have a 4k player, and one has a 4k tv, the other does not.
Anyway, they came over, and we flipped through several different discs, played with the settings on my TV, etc. At the end of the night, we ended up going to YouTube to look for videos and stumbled across Gemini Man. This movie was really not on my radar at all, but the YT clips had us all reacting wildly. We loved the look! Anyway, as a result, one of my cousins started shopping for a 4k TV, and decided to pick up Gemini Man on UHD, so he can bring it over tomorrow and we'll all watch it together. I am SUPER stoked to give this one a watch. While I don't have high hopes for the actual movie, I am really excited to see the UHD 60fps presentation. If the YT videos are any indication, it's going to be a fun night. ![]() |

Gemini Man 60 fps 4k UHD.
I thought this movie was supposed to suck? It's actually not bad at all. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it surpassed all expectations I had for it. Was that due to having ultra low expectations going in? Perhaps, but none the less, I found it to be an enjoyable movie. The first half being stronger than the second half, but that's generally how it is for most action thrillers IMO. The second half is predictable, of course, but that's because we've all seen movies like this many times before. Could the second half have been more original? Sure, but the same thing can be said about a lot of movies, and they don't seem to garner (what I consider to be) the unwarranted hate that gets heaped upon Gemini Man. Moving on to the technical aspects, and what I feel is the true star of the show here, that 60fps presentation. It took me around 30 minutes to fully adjust to the high frame rate, but I never felt that it was distracting in the least, nor did it ruin my immersion at all. In fact, the crystal clear (read "crispy 4k") presentation made me feel like I was right there with the actors on the set. I thought it was a refreshing way to be presented a movie, and afterwards I found myself wishing that more movies would start to be filmed with a higher frame rate. It wouldn't work with every type of film, but in the right hands, I do think it's a tool that could be utilized to great effect. The digital Junior was hit and miss for me. At times, he looked so lifelike that it was truly uncanny, at other times, the digital effects stuck out like a sore thumb. The reasoning for this, I am not quite sure of, but I would imagine that the films budget would be the culprit here, not the work of the FX team. However, the technical aspects of the disc cannot be blamed for the quality of the FX work (good or bad), so I cannot fault the UHD transfer for that. The colors here were a highlight for me. I don't know if the frame rate has anything to do with the way colors were represented here, but dayum, I thought they were gorgeous! Specular highlights and shadow detail were also very well done IMO, and was especially impressed with how night time shots were handled. No black crush that I could spot, and I really did feel that the way things looked in the dark/night are the way we perceive them vs how a camera generally does. I don't usually pop in the BD to compare, but in this case, my cousin and I decided that it was a must. In our opinions, the UHD beat the BD in every aspect, and especially in regards to the frame rate. Once we popped in the BD, it immediately looked terrible to our eyes. That 24 frame stutter (seemingly made worse by OLED) was an immediate eyesore that has us both screaming in pain (hyperbole for dramatic effect, folks ![]() All in all I will rate the film 3.5/5. The UHD presentation I will rate 4.25/5. This is a demo disc, IMO. Also, because my cousin is a good guy, he gifted me the entire retail package when he left. He liked the movie, but said he doesn't care about physical media anyway, so he told me to add it to my collection. Awesome! As always YMMV! ![]() Last edited by 4kUltraBD; 05-14-2020 at 12:29 AM. |

Finally ordered this cheap off ebay and it came today. Had some doubts from the positive comments on the quality of this movie.
Holy damn the PQ is insane. Zero grain and the 60 fps is def plus imo. Feels like I'm on the other side of the camera filming them in person. This movie is a must to show off in 4k especially if you have dolby vision. Def happy on how this movie came out on disc. |

I wasn’t a fan of the 60fps after my first viewing. But I rewatched it today, and I started to appreciate it. I guess since I knew what to expect. And the PQ this movie has is so clear, it’s like looking through a 120” window in my home theater.

Took the Nestea plunge on this and... Wow! The movie is actually really good. Wasn’t boring or predictable like all the reviews said. Also, unlike Billy Lynn’s, the 60fps is fantastic and feels right! Hands down, this movie is highly underrated.
If you’re on the fence, go for it. Worth the full price I just paid and I’m definitely excited to watch it again, due to the amazing PQ and colors. |

I was given this 4k package as a gift. I had literally no idea what to expect from this film, and had not researched it beyond glancing at a few unfavorable reviews several months ago. I was also generally unaware of the more unique qualities of the presentation, that set it apart from most of the rest of the 4k pack, and have been quite polarizing, apparently.
I popped in the 4k disc first. Holy whoop-ass, mind-warping, demo-quality tech showcase, for the format! Irrespective of the subsance of the film, this disc displays some of the most vibrant, intense, stunning coloration, and surreal levels of reach-out-and-touch-it depth and intricate detail that money can buy. And the incredible like-it-or-lump-it hyper frame rate is so clear and all-absorbing that it leaves you feeling as if you're directly ON each set, watching the filming taking place right in front of you. By the time you get through the dueling dual-sport dirt bikes segment, you know for certain that you're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy!!!! It's not really like a video game, it's more like you're actually front-and-center in a live-action stunt show. It drags you kicking and screaming into a 2020-and-beyond live-action film experience not previously available at home, the primary shtick of the entire film product. Rather than scrutinizing the plot, I was riveted to the screen, enjoying the top-notch resolution, gorgeous colors, and being pulled into the most minute details of the intense, slick choreography of each and every action sequence as it unfolded. The plot was ok and the characters were almost likeable enough, while the script was fairly weak and sappy, but did it matter at the time? Perhaps not as much as it otherwise would have. It still seemes pretty demo-worthy to me, regardless. Or, if you'd rather go back to 2005 where it's more comfortable, you can always just watch the DVD version of this film, on a smaller entry-level tv set, and you'll get......a middling actioner with a somewhat predictable, tired, rehashed plot, and subpar dialogue. But it will look and feel very same-old familiar. More like your plain, average 90's or 2000's mid-tier action film. Which, when you take away the advanced, exciting hi-tech aspects of the 4k presentation......it is. I can't help but assume that some of the less favorable reviews of this product (other than on its substantive merits, which is more subjective) were from folks that didn't take it in via the 4k presentation on a high-quality theater system. Because it is very impressive in that regard. I see that this 4k package is now floating around in retail circles at the $12 to $14.95 price point, which makes it well worth the price of admission, in my book.
