This is one of the ugliest movies of all time. And HFR is maybe the worst thing to happen to movies ever. Strangely, this could work for porn, but that’s where it needs to stop.

It's literally the worst post I've ever seen on this forum. Worse than the spam links even. I feel like gouging my eyes out after reading it.

I couldn’t give it a full 5 stars because of the hit & miss special effects. If those had been nailed down perfectly, then 5 stars. As it stands, not all of it is perfectly executed. Yes, I’m aware it’s not the fault of the transfer, but to the layman, it still has some “rough edges”.

A perfect 5/5 transfer for me is Blade Runner (both of them), A Few Good Men, Pacific Rim, The Wizard of Oz, 2001, etc.

The special effects have nothing to do with the picture quality or demo worthiness... If you’re going by those standards, then you definitely can’t put Wizard of Oz -or- 2001 on your list... also, if your docking Gemini Man due to some wonky CGI, then I say Pacific Rims Jaegers move a bit dodgy sometimes and don’t even get me started on the Acting in that movie. See, we can play this game all day.

Gemini Man is Hands down The best looking 4K disc available to date. Full 5 stars

I hope Ang gets to do something that's closer to his heart (imo) on the next film, like Thrilla In Manila that he's been dreaming of making for a while. Gemini Man feels so unworthy of him, like a tech demo where he got to experiment further with the tech and didn't pay attention enough to the script or more.

I revisited this the other night to see if I can come around to it....I just can't get around to it

The HFR is just so ugly in motion for cinema experience. Admittedly it was an improved experience and less jolting the second time. I would definately need multiple viewings to get used to it, just too bad the story is so terrible which makes it hard to watch multiple times. It's not even B-level, more like C-level..and it might just be me but the HFR makes the acting feel worse too (and the CGI was wonky too).

The positives: if I just forget it as a movie and have it in the background to show off my OLED, then that works fantastic. My wife was literally wow'ed and stopped to watch when she saw it. She actually asked me why the picture looks so good =X So I do agree it looks amazing when detaching from the movie and just using it as a demo. I do wish there were more action scenes and more audio worthy demo scenes too, but oh well.

He's had 3-4 good movies in 30 years and the last 2 were absolutely horrible. I don't think his career is trending in the right direction. If he ever does make Thrilla in Manila...he better not screw it up with this god awful HFR crap.

Gemini Man is far from a classic, but it's not "absolutely horrible." Hyperbole and the internet go hand in hand, I know, but it's nothing worse or better than a typical action film.

It was horrible to me. Bad CGI, bad acting, bad story and plot, bad writing, average action, and even Clive Owen hammed it up so bad. And it was in HFR. It was well below average than a typical action film. Like low budget

Clive Owen seems to be in gammon mode by default these days, so I don't hold that against the movie which is otherwise enjoyable B-movie nonsense.

I must have got the wrong disc in my copy, as I didn’t notice any bad cgi in the film I watched.

That is true. The CGI is great and the visuals are a game changer. Not sure what cgi is the problem with people. Movie was entertaining but not as good without the Atmos, Dolby Vision and 60 fps.. I mainly got the 4K disc just to see what all the fuss is about with 60fps.
Mixed with 60 fps, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos its a good example of whats next for the format. Anyway enjoy.

The final scene's CGI is egregiously bad. Looks like character animation straight out of NBA 2K10.

Eh, it's bad, dude. I rate every movie I watch on a scale of 1 to 5 stars in half-star gradations, and I gave GEMINI MAN 2 out of 5 stars, where an average, middle-of-the-road, so-so film receives 2 1/2 stars. That means I felt this film was worse than average. Half a star less and you plunge further into the realm of 1 1/2 stars where true excrement lies. It's not beyond the realm of possibility that somebody would like it half a star less than I do, which would make it truly, truly atrocious.

So, what's my point? That it's perfectly reasonable and non-hyperbolic to call it absolutely horrible, especially considering the critical and commercial drubbing it received last year upon its release.

*And if you'd like to know what I consider to be a purely average action film, it's SOLO. I gave it 2 1/2 stars.

I'm normally in the neutral side and defend a lot of dumb movies or enjoy them all for what they are (like why complain about Applebees steak when you know what you're getting and they don't pretend to give you anything more than applebees steak quality ). But this one just felt so bad in so many ways and it was trying to be something more. The nba2k comment is spot on

But anyway, just my opiniom. Not trying to convince others of it, and calling it hyperbolic is a little disingenuous.

Worse than average doesn't necessarily mean bad though.

The movie is spot on with the trailer, so if you watch the trailer and think “this looks pretty cool and interesting”, then you’ll like the movie and love the PQ.

I really enjoyed the movie, and I don’t like bad movies... so either we just have differing tastes -or- the people who dislike this movie, in general just like bad movies.

By definition it does, with the acknowledgment that my use of the evaluative term "average" in this context means acceptable but unremarkable. And bad, by definition, means less than acceptable.
