Default MARVEL SETS 4 MOVIE RELEASE DATES: Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, Avengers

Marvel Entertainment released their first quarter report to its shareholders this morning to coincide with the announcement about the success this past weekend of Marvel Studios' first production Iron Man, which grossed an estimated $100.7 million domestically and over $200 million worldwide. The announcement included an update of Marvel Studios' feature film slate with the already-rumored Iron Man 2 announced for a release on April 30, 2010, followed by three more movies for the summers of '10 and '11. Matthew Vaughn's Thor is set for a release on June 4, 2010, and The First Avenger: Captain America (the working title) will kick off the summer of 2011 on May 6, followed by the highly-anticipated and foreshadowed The Avengers scheduled for July 2011. (Edgar Wright's Ant-Man is also listed as being in development with no release date set.)

With that in mind, one can start expecting a lot more announcements in the coming months about creative teams and casting for those movies including who might direct the Captain America and Avengers movies. (Whomever plays Steve Rogers AKA Captain America presumably will be making two movies at once.)

There will be a webcast for investors at 9AM Eastern at www.Marvel.com/webcasts where the same information should be relayed.

UPDATE

In a conference call this morning, Marvel Studios' David Maisel said that Iron Man 2 will be used to introduce Thor. Regarding more "Hulk" movies, Maisel said "We definitely plan on continuing." He added that development continues on Spider-Man 4. "I can't give any other updates other than to say it's in development and everybody's excited about 'Spider-Man 4,'" he said.

I'm a man who knows when to say when. Blu for Blue, you win. I'm going into hiding now....

Just kidding. All I have to say is DAMNIT!!! I was so wrong. Having said that, I hope it's Sam Jackson, Bob Downey, Jr. and of course Ed Norton as their respective roles.

Only thing that worries me is, whomever plays Capt. America in the movie will likely not be in Avengers because they come out with each other.

But
Iron Man 2
Thor
and Spiderman 4 (rumor)

Sounds like a good year for me

I see the Hulk doesnt seem like he will be added to the Avengers. But if someway he is, I hope Ed Nortan reprises the role.

Iron Man was excellent from Marvel!! Incredible Hulk looks to shirk off Ang Lee's mess and create a new name for itself! This year and the years coming should not disappoint Marvel fans

I cant wait for these.

Avengers will be cool. I have an issue as noted below that the actor that plays one super hero needs to be in them all. I really dislike it when they cast one and switch the actor for a sequel or a char that is cameo or part of a group like the Avengers. (ala Bond films)

I wonder which Avenger group they will pick, there have been so many teams.

Yeah I hate that. Like if DC makes JLA Bale HAS to be Batman or it could be very bad.

Iron Man, Thor, Antman, Hulk, Captain America are the likely main characters. But Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America are the only ones listed

Just because they say they want to do avengers does not mean it will happen

They have to appease Uni and Paramount first to get them to like the idea of Hulk and Iron Man in the picture, plus whoever gets Thor and Cap

Marvel only has distribution deals with Universal and Paramount regarding Hulk and Iron Man. Since they now control the rights and production, they can put them in the same film if they want to. Hence the cameo of Downey's Tony Stark in the upcoming Hulk film. They can't use Spider-man since Sony controls the rights to the character and all production, but they can combine all of these characters if they choose to.

You are 100% correct. All of their characters that have previously had movies have been sold to other studios (Spider-man, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, Punisher, Blade) they bought back the rights to the Hulk. Perceivably they could do the Avengers movie with Sony and add Spider-man or some deal like that, bt I don't see it happening.

I think the key is casting of Cpt. America. He is the leader and backbone of the Avengers and with characters like Downey Jr and Ed Norton attached, he's gotta be someone highly respectable.

He will be.

It will be a period piece, and end with him being frozen. We'll probably see a post-credit sequence that has Nick Fury and SHIELD finding his body which will lead into the Avengers film 2 months later.

Sweet!!!! I can't wait for Thor. My first solo purchase on eBay (using my bros credit card hehe) when I was 13 was a lot of Thor comic books. I've been fascinated with him ever since. Can't wait for the others too; movies are just getting better and better for me

Hawkeye should get his own treatment first, and then can be added to an Avengers sequel in the future. He's too cool not to get his own film.

Hmm I suppose you are right, he's my favorite Avenger it would suck if he doesn't get included or get his own flick.

Just because there isn't a Hawkeye movie prior to an Avengers movie doesn't mean he won't be included. Marvel has proven to be a savvy outfit in recent years, I'd expect that they'll use their cornerstone single-character franchises to draw an audience for the Avengers movie where I'd expect them to introduce lesser-known characters in hopes of generating more franchise opportunities down the road.

It's possible. Especially if they go the Ultimates route, which seems likely after Iron Man. Hawkeye and Black Widow were added halfway through the first volume. As well as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Much like with the 616 canon. I can definatly see Hawkeye and Black Widow. Though I doubt we'll see Wanda and Pietro, until maybe the sequel. And only if they're established elsewhere first, like in the Magneto movie.
