OFFICIAL: Marvel confirmation for Avengers, Iron Man 2 w/ Cheadle - Blu-ray Forum

Not that much of this hasn't already been known and I know this topic has been discussed endlessly, but today Marvel officially announced the Avengers movie which will star Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Rhodey/War Machine and more set for a July 15, 2011 release.

They also officially confirmed Cheadle is the new Rhodey in Iron Man 2, which Jon Favreau is set to direct with a release date of May 7, 2010. Cheadle will also play Rhodey (and we're assuming War Machine) in the Avengers.

Again, while recent threads and news stories spread the news about Cheadle replacing Howard, this thread is to indicate Marvel officially confirmed it along with the announcement that Cheadle will be in The Avengers.

I can' t wait for both!!! I'm just disappointed that Howard won't be returning as Rhodes. Cheadle is a great actor but I feel that there should be contunity in the movie plus I really dug Howard as Rhodes and was hoping to see him as War Machine.

i'm really happy that favreau will be involved w/the avengers as an exec. producer. i can't wait for these movies!!!

I can't wait to sit down and watch The Avengers at the theaters. But then again it's 2011 so I guess I could wait lol.

I am a little worried about the budget of Avengers. If the studio and Marvel cheapens out the budget this movie won't be as great as it could be. An ensemble movie with lots of big stars and special effects is very expensive. After thinking about it I think Cheadle is a better choice for Rhodes. Howard seemed somewhat lifeless in Iron Man.

I agree. I'm not surprised by the change. Cheadle has better range as an actor. He can be serious and comidic. He has charisma a lot more than Howard. He could provide a good jolt of humor, life, and uniqueness to a movie. He stood toe to toe with Brad Pitt, Clooney, and other stars in his films and still manages to not get overwhelmed. He has his own strong presence.

A good choice by marvel and the execs. Marvel universe is lucky to have him.

i still think viggo mortensen as captain america would be awesome and would guarantee tickets. he could definitely pull off a muscular look. not really his type of role, but then again....heath ledger as joker and robert downey as iron man worked really well.

I think a John Candy look alike would make an excellent Thor. I think maybe Will Ferrell will make Captain America work. Edward Norton would make a good Thor. Did you see how big he is with his shirt off.
