Is the whole film cropped (Umbrella edition) on the left side?
The three tombstones on the left are gone. http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?go=1&a...=74921&i=0&l=0 |

Very happy to have this flick with the original colors instead of that Smurfvision shit. Making my way through the extras, loved that interview with Patricia Tallman; it's always refreshing to hear actors look back on their horror films with fondness and appreciation.

Is it because they're filtered out on the TT version or because the Umbrella disc is cropped so there are more pixels given to that same area?

Okay, a spot that's clearly in frame on both, look at the corner of the porch on the right. On the TT, there are a few floating twigs right off the end of that corner. On the Umbrella disc, off the end of that corner, the rest of the branch is connected to those same "floating twigs."

Screenshot_2016-04-15-21-02-32-1.jpg Looks like whatever TT/Sony used to clean up the transfer confused those branches for scratches on the film. |

The 68' disc is region free, as well. I popped it in to watch the "Reflections of the dead" documentary that I'd never seen, but I will continue watching the Happinet release for the movie, especially now that I've seen how superior it is for myself.

I'd like to make a 3-disc set out of it with the Happinet but don't have any 3-disc cases that fit an AUS size cover. Gonna have to look on ebay for something like that.

If you find something that works please share! I had the same idea. Kinda want to keep the Happinet disc, but don't need a bunch of repetitive NotLD DVDs on the shelf. I watched the 90' blu last night, it looks better than I expected after reading some of the feedback here. Didn't blow me away, but I thought the picture quality was solid. I had forgotten how hilarious Tom Towles is as Cooper. He always looks like he's on the brink of laughing at how ridiculous his performance is, haha. |

I'd agree with the school of thought that said the TT transfer erroneously has extra soundtrack area from the negative exposed on the left, as with Arrow's Hellraiser III and the original unreleased pressing of Criterion's Dressed to Kill.
I think the symmetry of the trees on either side of the frame is a much better indicator of composition those tiny tombstones far in the background. |
