It's among the best of the horror remakes.

They really should. I don't see the point in them "avoiding" this one. But ultimately after the 3 years window somebody else can do it if Twilight Time neglects to.

It would be a perfect time for Mill Creek to step in and release a $5 color corrected version.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony released it themselves.

Shame it hasn't been released in Europe by Sony already. I wouldn't pay TT prices for this disc but for somewhere between £5 and £10 I'd gladly put it next to all the other Romero zombie goodness on my shelf.

Wow, how time flies, it's going to be three years in a few months from now. Maybe we'll hear something this fall from someone with an announcement.

I'd buy a cheap Euro disc even with the tampering. I sold the TT disc and got my money back that way because I wasn't maying a premium for something I wasn't happy with. It cost £26 to import a copy to the UK, £7 for a German release would be a different matter entirely.

It's not just the dark blue regrading that was wrong, various sound effects were missing from the 5.1 track. The original, unmolested audio should have been on there.

NOTLD '90 is one of the better horror remakes. It's a shame so many critics gave it a tough time just because it wasn't the ground-breaking original. To be honest there are elements in the Savini take I actually prefer (Barbara's characterization being the prime example). As much as I hate censorship I think the lack of explicit gore does the film no harm. Whereas Dawn (excellent) and Day (fair) of the Dead went overboard in that department, NOTLD 's R-rating sort of ensures that it relies more on implicit violence and threat (as per the original) which is in the long run more effective.

It does kinda make the story and characters more of a focus than the gore, but I still think the remake + proper grue would be one of the all-time great zombie movies. As it is, it's merely very, very good.

The cut gore is shown on the making of doc that's on the DVD, it's pretty juicy.... There's a few more graphic head shots (squibs, exit wounds galore) and something that a Savini film wouldn't be complete without..... a shotgun blast that takes a head clean off.

A Director's cut would really be amazing.

But Sony is responsible for the master, not TT. And Sony isn't going to spend the money to "fix" it. I'm sure if they did, then TT might do it, but Nick said he won't be going through that again with this title. TT pays all money up front, instead of paying as they sell, so Sony has no incentive to go back to the title since they got their money (and it sold out anyway).

If anyone else releases it, it will most likely be the same master.

That's good to know, hopefully in a few months we hear of a new edition from someone else.

There is already a "color correct" HD master available. Money is most certainly not the reason...

I'm sure it's been discussed on this thread, you can get the HDX version on Vudu and it's got the correct color without blue tint (and it's been available for years).

In the US? I'd be stunned. a) Sony has yet to release any title that they initially licensed to TT. b) When's the last time Sony released a horror movie from the '80s/'90s on BD?

The one with the correct color is an older master. The newer, crappy blue one is more current--and was recently seen on Encore (the movie channel).

Not sure if you missed the comments from TT about Christine, but when asked about them re-releasing that film, they made it sound like Sony might be re-releasing it themselves. That's always been a possibility with TT titles of course, but the comments from TT seem to have come out of the blue.

Sony has mostly been a barren desert when it comes to catalog titles, but I just have a feeling that they will be looking at the sales for the sold out titles from TT, and will consider a release for some.

Oh, I just thought TT meant Christine might get released by someone else (but not necessarily Sony).

Certainly could be, though if Sony were to sub-license it again, you'd think they'd go with TT again, as I imagine they'd get more money out that deal, than say Mill Creek.

I'd say the last sentence here implies a direct release by Sony (or any oter studio working with TT), rather than another label. I do think he's just talking in general, and Christine is likely renewed already for another TT release, but I guess time will tell.

Twilight Time DVD Label There is a chance the film may be re-released in future, although not necessarily by us. Studio slates are always in constant flux, and our job, as we have explained many times before, is to be a "premium platform" for certain titles that may or may not be given a wider rollout down the line. Our 3,000 unit model has proven very successful in identifying for the majors which titles might be given that opportunity.

Maybe in the U.K. They don't release much at all in the U.S., so it's hard to "expect" anything. But that really has nothing to do with what they've licensed to Twilight Time... they just don't release much of anything period. Certainly they have no obligation to Twilight Time after the 3 year license is up. So they could start randomly licensing them, but more likely they would go to Mill Creek or something (or Twilight Time can go for round 2).

Yes I figured that already, but it would still be acceptable to release.

Additionally I'm not really sure how "baked in" or how expensive it would be for Sony to just go back and fix the color on their newest master. Doesn't make sense for them to 4K almost every bit of their work, but then leave an oversight like that permanently in their archive.
