Re-wached NOTLD '90's recently. Wow. This is truly a modern horror classic, and IMHO eclipses the original film in many ways. The zombie effects were amazing for the time period.
What's interesting about this 1990 version is how true to the original film this is while still having some interesting changes ( [Show spoiler] ); I'm sure that Tom Savini (who did the make-up in the original NOTLD) directing this had a lot to do with the very authentic look/feel.Several interesting things worth noting: -When they turn the small TV on in the farmhouse upstairs, it's an old b&w set. I remember that even in the late '80's these were on their way to becoming obsolete - so, it's a nice homage to the b&w original film. -In one night scene of the zombies wandering outside of the house, there is a quick glimpse on one of the shuffling zombies who has a needle sticking out of his arm; interesting touch. -When the [Show spoiler]

Haven't watched much of the discs yet, but wanted to note a few things:
1. If you have an XBOX One, you'll be able to play the doc on the original film's disc. My Panny started to play it, but the video was wonky. 2. The interview with Tom Savini is worth the purchase price alone. 3. The "blue" footage they use in the Tom Savini interview looks terrible - so glad I held off for a properly-timed version. Haven't watched the movie yet, but so far I'm happy. ![]() Last edited by WhySoBlu?; 04-19-2016 at 12:48 AM. |

#1966 arrived in sunny California today.
Popped it in to take a look, I was pleasantly surprised. My new 4k UltraHD LCD was able to play all the new extras on the '68 blu (even though they're encoded 576i at 25fps). This got me wondering so I went and grabbed my copy of Eraserhead (fr) that I've had for years. On my old LCD set I was only able to watch Eraserhead the film (but none of the special features). Lo and behold, the new 4k set was able to play all the extras off that bluray too (my player is not region free). So in a nutshell, this is me right now: ![]() |

I am definitely cursed when it comes to Umbrella's release of this film.
First time ordering it, Deep Discount had no idea when (or if) they would be getting any. Decided to order it from Umbrella directly, only to have Night of the Creeps show up instead ![]() Emailed them to try to get this figured out. |

Though he was hired for NoTLD by Romero, before being drafted and heading off to war.
Savini has a lot of great stories, I've had the pleasure of moderating a number of panels with him over the past 4 years. |

Mine came this past Saturday 4/16, and was number 390 of 2300.
So far I watched just the 1990 version and I'm very happy with it. It's weird though there's no Set-up for audio. It defaults to 5.1. The film was recorded in Ultra-Stereo which means it's 2.0 Dolby Surround compatible - but that mix isn't available. The only 2.0 soundtrack is the audio commentary. So the 5.1 bump-up is the only one. I remember seeing the film in the theater when it was originally released. I always liked it, yet found it strange how certain scenes were handled with less violence. The cannibalism is shown to a lesser degree than in the original; along with the murder of the mother - which when I saw it on TV, late night as a kid completely freaked my out to the point of getting dizzy and actually almost passing out! I had never seen that much blood before - and even though it was B&W it really got to me. Still the remake is very good and holds up very well. It even holds up as a prequel to DAWN with the quick shot of the helicopter seen towards the end ![]() |

A few white specks on movie over 20 years old doesn't bother me , just glad we have a decent transfer now . And a bonus the movie and special features play fine on my Sony BDP-56500 . |
