Even if true, TT would get none of that. TT and SAE are not the same company. SAE is merely the online storefront TT has chosen because of their established history with movie media collectors.

And FTR, although TT's principles (Nick Redman and Brian Jamieson) are well regarded for their veteran work on movie soundtracks for studios like Fox, the Twilight Time label has never sold CD soundtracks, only DVDs (briefly) and now Blu-rays (exclusively).

Most of this is clarified in KQEK's candid and insightful interview with Nick Redman.

I can just about guarantee you that this title will have the same type of maniacal devotion/reaction, sales-wise, that the release of Fright Night had. This is as close to a sure thing as you'll ever get, as far as "investing" in a blu-ray goes.

Oh, and, HELL YEZZ, I will be buying a copy to watch, too.

Being that before these "limited" titles they sold mostly film scores, etc... it's not like it can hurt their business. Even if it takes 2-4 years to "sell out" of a given one, it'll happen eventually... and they have 3 years at LEAST before a competitor can release the same title.

If you do a check on their apparent stock by adding the maximum to your cart you get the following on their currently available stock (release dates in parenthesis) -- this tells me that within a 2 year window many of these WILL sell out. Some faster than others but still.

Egyptian - 887 (6/12/11)
Mysterious Island - 519 (11/8/11)
Fright Night - SOLD OUT (12/13/11)
Rapture - 372 (12/13/11)
Picnic - 2084 (1/17/12)
Roots of Heaven - 2349 (1/17/12)
Swamp Water - 1220 (2/14/12)
Pal Joey - 1299 (2/14/12)
Demetrius and the Gladiators - 1013 (3/8/12)
Bite the Bullet - 1347 (3/8/12)
Desiree - 1413 (4/10/12)
Bell Book and Candle - 1109 (4/10/12)
Journey to the Center of the Earth - 676 (5/8/12)
The Big Heat - 620 (5/8/12)
As Good As It Gets - 2179 (6/12/12)
The Wayward Bus - 1742 (6/12/12)

For a company that mostly sells film scores and other niche items it's a solid business investment. Obviously that depends on how much it actually costs to license these titles (I'm guessing lower than some people expect.)

I'm actually surprised at how low AGAIG is selling. Perhaps it's not such a surprise Sony licensed it after all.
I better get a move on with The Big Heat. That seems to be on a pretty quick pace to sell out.

I don't know that I would assume Sony's licensing decision for AGAIG was the right one based on Twilight Times's sales numbers. The limited availability and high pricepoints for these releases virtually eliminates casual purchases. All you can really say is that AGAIG doesn't have the niche appeal that some of their other titles, such as The Wayward Bus, have. I'd venture a guess that, given more typical distribution channels, AGAIG would be outselling The Wayward Bus, and by a fairly large margin.

This is a MUST OWN for me. But 30 bucks for what's probably gonna be a movie only disk...I dunno.

But I love this film! I guess I'll wait and see if anything will be included.

nope. it's almost exactly the same, with the exception of Barbara being a help instead of a hinderance. the original is way better, but i liked this version too

Barbra and some of the acting really ruins the original for me.

As far as sales go, I think this will be another "Fright Night" response.

I had the same theory. It's too mainstream for such a tactic -- so the general audience that would likely snag it at their local best buy ($12-$18 range) thinking "Oh I remember that movie! Let me grab that..." aren't the types who'd go looking for the release at an online only retailer... but the cult movie fans who would aren't really on the lookout for it either.

If all the third party distributors put out quality like this for catalog titles I would have no issues paying top dollar for them, most rarely get better then 3 1/2 stars for PQ. If it means getting 4+, I'll pay the extra fee for the time and care spent porting the movie over properly.

To equate the NOLD remake with Fright Night seems pretty oblivious to me. NOLD-r is a good movie but it lacks the cult following of FN. I think there is general enthusiasm to see a horror release combined with this audience coiled to react with any Twilight Time announcement; those elements might not equate to sales. As much as I'd like the blu release to be a success that paves the way for future main stream horror releases I hope vulture profiteers choke on extra copies.

I first saw NOLD-r on Joe Bob Briggs' Monstervision, that was a great show and his intersections would make an epic extra, it's not going to happen but if we're goin to dream about extras...

Untrue. The NOLD remake changes at least one pivotal scene. Rumor has it that Tom Savini later applogized to George Romero about the change. Other differences may be subtle but like you say characterization is also different. Accordig to imdb NOLD-r makes "multiple references to Dawn of the Dead."

I thought it was John Russo who disliked the one major narrative change. Romero wrote the script for the remake, and had input all throughout the production. Not sure why Savini would have to apologize to him. Savini did say, however, that Russo was less than thrilled with the change.

The ending and atmosphere of the original are better...most of the acting is better in the remake, and Barbara is more than just a piece of furniture. Both are good. Ultimately, I give the edge to the original for that dark ending. But I've always liked the remake.

You may be correct that Romero did not object to NOLD-r changes and was involved with the script. My initial internet search didn't pull up much so I relayed my hazy recollection. Either way, anyone purchasing this expecting a modernized clone of the original would be surprised.

This is one of those rare occasions where the remake outdoes the original imo.

The Hills have Eyes, Night of the Living Dead, Last House on the Left.

I will be eagerly getting this title as soon as the pre-order goes up. Lately I've missed out on two collector's items by underestimating the demand of said item (Fright Night, and the Friday the 13th, Parts 1-6, Limited Edition CD set), but I will be prepared this time. I'm not thrilled with the lack of extras, but I understand Twilight Time's business model and will be supporting the titles I'm interested in. This film is one of the better remakes and is classic in its own right, a must have for a horror nut like me.

I'm not sure what you mean. TT does not make their own transfers, they take what they are given by the studio.
