Can't believe a new Star Wars is less than a month away.

Really enjoyed Jimmy Kimmel's Star Wars special. Daisy Ridley is lovely and John Boyega seems like an awesome guy. I can see big things coming for both of them.

I'm quickly tiring of the commercial frenzy of Star Wars ad tie-ins. I can't even buy a freakin' can of refried beans without getting a Star Wars logo on it.

I thought it was pretty lame. Just the same old, "We can't tell you anything, but we brought a costumed character and a droid with us." I just want the film to be released already, so we can get something interesting out of these appearances.

EDIT:
Abrams did reveal that "this" is very first word spoken in the film.

I'm guessing they roll ones and he tumbles, then they roll the other way and he tumbles again, they roll a third time and he catches himself. Its a good "frustrated droid" bit/joke.

Disney's trying to downplay opening weekend B.O. expectations: http://collider.com/star-wars-disney...-expectations/

I'd still be surprised if it doesn't hit at least $180M, but I'm sure anything less than the record will be seen as disappointing by the media.

Disney are only giving conservative figures because they don't want to predict a higher number incase the film doesn't perform as well, because that would look bad on them. If the film does perform better (which I think it will) then Disney can announce that it's been a success.

Yep, if they predict it's gonna be the biggest thing ever and it doesn't get there then not only will they have egg on their face but it may have an impact on the business as well, e.g. shares in Lionsgate were reported to have slid 3% when it was announced that Mockingjay Part 2 was going to debut to "only" $100M for the weekend.

They're smart to reign in expectations, I'm still sceptical myself that it'll beat JW's opening weekend. At the height of summer it wouldn't be in doubt, in the middle of winter I'm not so sure.

Oh I get the implications of "keep expectations low, then be pleasantly surprised afterwards," but in this case it feels a bit like spitting into the wind. Regardless of what Disney says, the media and fans have their own ridiculous figures and they aren't gonna budge from them. No one wants to write about legs right now, they just want the big opening weekend number.

Since we know that the final cut is officially done, they should just pull a fast one and release it early, before any more spoilers have a chance to get out.

If there's a huge snow event like the last two years, that could put a damper on things. All kinds of things can happen in this world that are unpredictable.

Well in my area, at this point it's pretty difficult to find 2 tickets together on Friday or Saturday unless you're going in the middle of the day (1:20 showings) and even those are getting slim now.

This is at the 5 theaters closest to me, Midnight showings and most Friday evening showings (until you get to 10:40+) are already sold out.

Snow storm could hit the Twin Cities, but with so many tickets already being sold it wouldn't really damper the box office hit, since anyone who tries to walk-up will be SOL.

They have major Star Wars stuff happening at Disneyland right now with something supposedly really interesting tomorrow, the day before Thanksgiving. I think I'm going to go with my wife and her cousins. I'm sure it will be busy and crazy, but I don't have anything else to do. Might as well stand in lines, check crap out, and get a ride in once every hour and half or two hours.
