What if the HD DVD PG today is NOT to reinforce their position? I can wish, right?

I hope that Universal does this with more than one title. I amstill hoping that part of the tangle of olive branches the BDA holds out to Universal includes assistance, training, advice, and whatever else to ensure that Universal can join in and increase the standard of what we expect from BD releases rather than starting out with a port philosophy.

Since Universal was consistent in this format war, I have a lot less to get over with them than I do with Paramount, and I wouldn't be unhappy with Para getting this kind of help in coming back. If the olive branches benefit us in the end, I think it is just that much for the better.

BTW: Doing the above would likely help Universal's sales of that title, so they would probably be doing themselves a favor by making the BD better anyway.

Normally I say forgive and forget. In the case of KG, I feel like an apology is in order, and yet I also think that it really is not necessary. I think I feel that Universal was one of the major reasons the format war lasted so long, and yet as long as Universal will now back Blu-ray, the format war will have done what it needed to (dropping prices of players and movies).

So I think I will stick with my usual thing.. forgive and forget.
As long as KG really does support Blu-ray (even dual format is fine), I will be willing to forgive and accept him as part of the Blu-ray.com community.

Paramount on the other hand has some explaining to do!

I'm sure we'll all remember who the real weasels were during this war. So if P-Man says be nice to KG that's good enough for me.

The real travesty has been the poisoning of our communal HDM well (so to speak) with all the acrimony of the war.

I appreciate the insight. But I'm also glad I'm an engineer.
With apologies to KG and never having read his stuff, I just don't think I could do that every day. And with age, I'm learning that I probably don't have the requisite silver tongue, either.

Helll, after a recent panel discussion several months ago, Ken walked up to Bill Hunt (who had been debating Uni's philosophy about the high-def formats) and shook Bill’s hand. He didn’t have to do that.
And, that would be me, too. Ronald Reagan & Tip O'Neill, Bob Hope & any US President - they all set good examples of keeping limits and not making it personal.

+100 there, that's absolutely correct. Hopefully if this ends quickly we can all get back to being nice to each other and whining (together, as one happy online community) about extras not being in HD, etc, bad transfers, etc.

I will renounce all my past transgressions against KG...as soon as he admits the PS3 is in fact a Blu-ray player.

You must be in college or somehow not practicing as an engineer. Are you saying that you sympathize with someone in a marketing position? These are the folks that love to say that the refrigerator you designed will not only keep the customer's beer cold but pop the cap and shoot the bottle directly to their hand without ever missing. Then they come back and tell you to make it pop the cap and shoot open beer bottles without spilling a drop or breaking a bottle.

In my mind, the "apology" will come in the form of very good looking discs with high end audio. The best thing they can do, should they come over, is to give us what we want.

Here is KG:

Quote:
"Contrary to unsubstantiated rumors from unnamed sources, Universal's current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format," said Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal Studios Home Entertainment and also co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group.
The response would have come sooner, but many HD DVD executives were on flights home from CES when the incorrect story from Variety broke.

Sad they aren't defecting right now, but it still leaves the option of releasing titles on Blu-ray wide open.

Hell, after a recent panel discussion several months ago, Ken walked up to Bill Hunt (who had been debating Uni's philosophy about the high-def formats) and shook Bill’s hand. He didn’t have to do that.

If you recall, the reception that Wild Bill received on AVS a few months back was like a public flogging with a moderator of the forum even joining in the fun.
hmm didnt know that about the bill handshake (fairplay) and I rarely venture into that other place but I (along with many others) are willing to forgive and forget as long as he starts to change his ways.

Penton, I'm sure you wouldn't talk crap just cause you were paid to?
but again I do relalise the pressure that this war has brought.

What is conspicuous by its absence is the word "exclusively", as in "to continue to support the HD DVD format exclusively"

"current plans" are easy to change.

im pretty sure warner had "current plans".

i think they are going to finish up what they have announced, which i believe is only elizabeth, then its proabaly going to be blu-ray exclusiveness. i think i mispoke when i said they would go neutral.

penton seems to be good buddies with kg now. and kg suddenly has a much different tune to sing about hd dvd. its not about how its winning, its just that they still plan to support it.
