One has black crush and no depth and the other...
Del Toro was personally involved in the conversion from the get-go. They allowed him 40 weeks to do it (Titanic took 50). In addition, they provided him extra money which was "considerable" to have ILM composite the CG shots in NATIVE 3d (as opposed to just giving elements). Personally, I feel that the 3d trumps the UHD easily Colors are just as strong and picture information is less compromised. (You might want to look at the 2D screen caps that someone posted a few pages back.) It's a fun ride in 3D that can't be experienced in any 2D format. In fact, I have some people coming by in a couple hours and was considering firing up Mad Max 3D but now I'm thinking I just might substitute Pacific Rim instead. I'm just surprised out of ALL the films at their disposal to make 4K transfers, THIS is the one that tops the cake right now. Makes me really wish Disney got on board and made Star Wars and Marvel into 4K releases. I feel those could easily top PR. Then again, PR has a LOT of CGI and action that probably make it ripe for 4K, and consensus wide the 'best' release out right now. |

Personally I think the Marvel films will get some benefit from HDR but given how dowdy the aesthetic has been for several of the recent films I would caution against expecting them to explode off of the screen, as 4K isn't a magic bullet. They'll look better for SURE...but not Pacific Rim Better™. ![]() |

Also, A Scanner Darkly would benefit from HDR in my opinion. |

I've noticed this on other Warners UHDs e.g. the blacks are darker on Fury Road and MoS too, and in the case of the latter the BD was already SUPER dark at some points.

Like I said in the pics thread, it looks much darker but I still see the detail. I looked back and forth and didn't feel like I was missing anything due to the darkness. Might be different in the battle shots though. Which is accurate? Who the f' knows.
