This reminds me so much of the old 3D debate where some claim a 3D conversion can never look as good as a native 3D film. This film is a perfect example of the potential of UHD (as it was for 3D), regardless of how the original film was shot.

What's always baffled me is that people will deny themselves genuinely enjoyable experiences on their chosen premium format, i.e. you get into this format, spend all the money on the gear, then automatically close off a vast portion of the software base just for the sake of it.
Although in PR's situation it's a case of having to kill your darlings, as the 3D and the UHD are both stellar examples of their respective formats. Hell, even the 2D BD is still scintillating viewing. |

Isn't it a purist argument in both cases? I know people like HDGoofnut who only buy films shot in 3D on 3D blu tend to say that's because of purism and wanting to see movies how they were shot and intended to be seen, etc. Same with people not looking to get UHDs based on HDR, which they often see as revisionist.
Not saying these are my opinions, just examining those who say these things. 3D gives me a headache and doesn't excite me so you can shoot a 3D movie in 3D all day long and tell me that's the intended experience but I'm still watching it in 2D. |

I guess I read it wrong since you once accused me of not wanting the best for the system I have. My bad.

Just got a Samsung UN65ks8000 and a Samsung UBDK8500 player last week. Watched Fury Road 4k BD and other regular BDs and they worked fine. Tried to play Pacific Rim and it will not load even after 9-10 tries. I get a message saying it can't play the disc and check to see if it's scratched or dirty and/or check to see if it's a format that can be played by this player. I cleaned it and still no load. I have updated player and TV to current versions. Regular blu-rays and Fury Road play with no problem. Thoughts? Bad disc?
