No exaggeration, i was seing details, set pieces, building details that i couldn't distinguish on the regular bluray. Thanks for the constructive criticism though, Happy New Year

The disc loaded right up within a couple seconds. I guess I got lucky based on all of the complaints I've been hearing.
Was it like watching it for the first time? (exaggerated hyperbole i mean)

It's all subjective, my goal was not to attack you. On my TV though the BD did not look any more detailed, it just looked a bit smoother and the HDR was the big difference. It came from a 2k DI so detail is not the star here. Perhaps your TV or player setting changes made a big difference?

In any case HDR is really showcased in this title and how "brand new movie" your experience is likely depends on how much you like HDR. I'm just on the lookout for hyperbole in these early-adopter times.

Echoing all the sentiments. First UHD Blu I have watched and I'm only thirty minutes in but it is truly breathtaking. The first big fight was jaw dropping. It truly is like rediscovering a movie for the first time.

This is by far my Demo disk for my Samsung KS8000 with Xbox One S. Awesome 4K movie, can't say enough good things about it. The colors are absolutely stunning!

Everyone is dead-on about this disc. The HDR on display here is a showstopper. Also, I don't exactly know what the studios use to upscale content, but wow, this looks to have more detail than it's Blu-ray counterpart. I'm really impressed with what Warner pulled off with this one.

You should get Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk. It blows Pacific Rim out of the water in terms of UHD presentation.

The HDR is pretty great and it definitely looks smoother, but I didn't see any real detail difference flipping back and forth.

At the moment I'm bouncing back and forth between a few titles to buy as my first real 4K disc, since I've just upgraded both my TV and my receiver. This is one of them just because of how amazing the film looks in general, not to mention all the glowing reviews I've been reading about the UHD version. Pretty darn fun film to watch, besides!

This has finally been reduced from £25 to £19.99 on Amazon UK! Here's hope it will come down some more.

Finally took the time to watch the UHD. Looks good but not sure if it's better than the standard HD. Both having their advantages and flaws. One thing however that bothered me with the UHD was just when Wall of Life chapter started; the sky on my display was almost plain white without any shades of any sort. The HD blu clearly shows detailed skies. Anyone else compared this? I get the feeling my display is too bright with HDR. Light at 65% so not nearly maxed out.

Yes, the highlights in Pac Rim UHD are brighter without necessarily adding a massive amount of extra range in every shot, and what highlight range is there is being clipped out on certain display types & methods e.g. your OLED and my SDR 2020 conversion.

I'd try reducing the contrast on the player itself down to -4 as recommended by someone earlier in the thread and see what difference that makes. I do that with Sony discs as a matter of course but on a case-by-case basis for other studios' stuff, most other Warners and Universal discs don't need it.

Your TV isn't capable of doing anything but reading the HDR signal. 2015 Samsung TVs are marginal with HDR at best with the 8500, 9000 and 9500 being HDR LITE. It's not a big adjustment for you because of your display.

This was one of the first discs I tried and found it pretty stunning, but I haven't revisited it since getting a better handle on my settings and HDR in particular. This thread bump has reminded me to take another look at it, hopefully in the near future.

Dude the HDR is great, I was talking about the resolution, which obviously my TV is fine for. Don't jump to criticize people's TVs at every opportunity when they disagree with you. This was a 2k DI and I don't see much detail difference. The blu upscaled looks super smooth and detailed. The improvements here are all in HDR and color.

The "your setup sucks, your opinion of the disc doesn't matter" argument needs to stop. All this stuff is still so up in the air compared to the relative objectivity of BDs.
