Del Toro was personally involved in the conversion from the get-go. They allowed him 40 weeks to do it (Titanic took 50). In addition, they provided him extra money which was "considerable" to have ILM composite the CG shots in NATIVE 3d (as opposed to just giving elements).

Personally, I feel that the 3d trumps the UHD easily
Colors are just as strong and picture information is less compromised. (You might want to look at the 2D screen caps that someone posted a few pages back.) It's a fun ride in 3D that can't be experienced in any 2D format. In fact, I have some people coming by in a couple hours and was considering firing up Mad Max 3D but now I'm thinking I just might substitute Pacific Rim instead.

I'd say they're both pretty awesome man. Personally I was really wowed by the picture the UHD gives and almost looked 3D with the contrast being so good. I put it on with my sister over who never notices stuff like that and asked why it looked so clear and different from her tv lol. I love the 3D and still own that version but I'm happy I have the regular one for when I don't want to put in glasses.

I agree. I started watching my 3D copy several days ago on my new LG C6, but had to stop watching halfway through. The next day, Best Buy put the UHD version on sale, so I picked it up and started watching from the point I left off on the 3D version. Both versions were equally impressive, but for different reasons. This is one of my favorite 3D films and is now my favorite UHD.

I just got the 65EF9500 and this is without question the best UHD disc I've tested on the panel so far and I've tested the likes of The Revenant, Sausage Party, Great Gatsby etc... those were all great but this was jaw dropping to me.

Just finished watching this after picking it up last month and I have to agree with everyone in saying it is one beautiful looking film. Overall the best looking 4K I've watched so far.

I still have yet to pop mine in due to just getting back home and recovering from jetlag, but I'm excited to see all the positivity about it and it's a film I thoroughly enjoy to boot.

I'm just surprised out of ALL the films at their disposal to make 4K transfers, THIS is the one that tops the cake right now.

Makes me really wish Disney got on board and made Star Wars and Marvel into 4K releases. I feel those could easily top PR. Then again, PR has a LOT of CGI and action that probably make it ripe for 4K, and consensus wide the 'best' release out right now.

It was already very lush and candy-coloured to begin with, not to mention being as sharp as a tack, so the upscale itself would be child's play and the neon-drenched colour was an ideal candidate for HDR WCG to exploit.

Personally I think the Marvel films will get some benefit from HDR but given how dowdy the aesthetic has been for several of the recent films I would caution against expecting them to explode off of the screen, as 4K isn't a magic bullet. They'll look better for SURE...but not Pacific Rim Better™.

I was more thinking of Dr. Strange once it's released. That would look awesome on 4K I think, and at the time I saw it, I still had yet to buy my OLED and buying 4K discs was the furthest thing on my mind. Now that I DO have all that, I'd love to see a UHD version of Strange be released. That movie in IMAX 3D was brilliant!

Also, A Scanner Darkly would benefit from HDR in my opinion.

Oh yes indeed, Strange and Guardians should look amazeballs. The rest of the MCU? Not so much.

So people can finally put to rest all these "it's not 4k, it's only an upscale so it's crap" mentality ?

Do you have chapter and or time? I'd be curious to check on how the 3D compares.

I normally don't plan on upgrading my pre-existing blu-rays to 4K, but wow!

The Pacific Rim 4K transfer looks absolutely marvelous.

Besides nice colors on hdr seems like a completely different gamma setting. Much darker and this movie was really dark before especially in the sea fighting scenes.

I've noticed this on other Warners UHDs e.g. the blacks are darker on Fury Road and MoS too, and in the case of the latter the BD was already SUPER dark at some points.

Like I said in the pics thread, it looks much darker but I still see the detail. I looked back and forth and didn't feel like I was missing anything due to the darkness. Might be different in the battle shots though. Which is accurate? Who the f' knows.
