I'd try reducing the contrast on the player itself down to -4 as recommended by someone earlier in the thread and see what difference that makes. I do that with Sony discs as a matter of course but on a case-by-case basis for other studios' stuff, most other Warners and Universal discs don't need it.
Yes that does help in fact.
Perhaps contrast in HDR mode is bit too high. OLED displays already got great contrast so it's bit too much for our eyes.

Manufacturers claim that but whether they can actually achieve that is another matter.

Js9000 (edge lit) = 550 nits

Js9500 (full array) = 1000 nits

As far as I know my TV doesn't even have the nits required to reach certain HDR standards either, but I can still notice quite a difference. So yeah, these opinions should stop. I think HDR implementation on sets that have it is going to be effective in most cases... it's really just a matter as to what degree.

I never said his setup sucked. I'm sorry that y'all don't like the truth. A Samsung J6000 has an 8 bit panel, no wide color gamut and can only read an HDR signal. I've had a JS9000, JS9500, B6 and this weekend a 930E. These TVs range from good to great. If HDR is too dark on a JS9000 how do you think it will look on a j6000?

When you say 'all your TV is capable of doing is reading the HDR signal', which isn't exactly true even if the desired brightness can't be reached, it comes off as 'neener neener, mine is better than yours'.

I'm not sure what your goal here is dude. I said the HDR and color on Pacific Rim are great. My set does HDR on some level, and accepts a 10bit signal, and those aspects of the disc are a nice improvement. It's the detail I think is no big leap, and my set does detail just fine. So like... what the heck are you talking about? Honest question, you're baffling me right now.

No reason to "come at you" with HDR the display matters. Rtings removed all the HDR highest nits scores first the 2015 Samsung. Stringing Velvets TV does 221 or 261 nits peak. TVs have been able to do that before HDR was even implemented. You didn't say Pacific Rim which is widely regarded as a top 5 transfer was not that noticeable over Blu ray. I haven't been rude to anyone rather just stated a fact. His Tv was causing him to miss out on the glory of what Pacific Rim has to offer.

To the poster who said " I need a friend" I don't surf the WWW looking for friends. I've actually spoken via email with exactly one person I've met on forums. Now while I didn't meet him through Bluray.com, he does post here and is well liked and knowledgeable.

People skills. You're going to comment on my people skills hiding behind a keyboard? People skills involves face to face and social interaction. It was always a shock for people when they learned how engulfed I am in the world of A/V. I don't exactly fit the preconceived stereotype. Now I was just finally rude and called you out.

1 thing I agree with velvet on, is that the upscale itself is not a noticeable improvement. The hdr is very good, but a reference blu ray disc not become noticeably sharper to my eyes like other great upscales. Not to beat that same old drum, but I've yet to see a movie filmed mostly with Red cameras that had a fantastic uprez. Movies like Hacksaw, furious 7 have sharper pictures with cleaner refinement. The spectral HDR is very good though.

Hacksaw Ridge is definitely better than Pacific Rim in terms of PQ. Best 2K DI I've seen yet.

I think you're right. Only one that I can think of is Allied, but it's not an upscale.

It's the information age buddy, social skills are part of our interaction with the online world now. Here's something you may want to see:

Mine is the 2016 model with 550 peak nits and 10bit panel, FYI.

Also you're still ignoring the main point which is that I agree the HDR on this title is great. It's the reason to get the disc. What I don't agree with is that it looks much more detailed. It does not. I don't know how many times I can write this in a week but I guess we'll find out.

How do I find out my TV's peak nits? I've been Googling around but can't seem to find that info. I know mine's not top of the line but I'd like to get a definitive answer.
