Dredd 2012 > Judge Dredd, and it's not even close.

It may not have made much at the box office, but it's a spectacular action movie.

Bought the 3D disc on a lark, and was shocked at how much I liked it. Basically a sci-fi version of THE RAID.

I love you ray but comments like that are so spectacularly ignorant I don't know where to begin. Firstly, Dredd is awesome. FACT. Secondly, Ex Machina is an extremely thought-provoking piece of adult scifi drama which won the Best VFX Oscar. Thirdly, well, I don't even know what Snitch is about but I'm not gonna speak ill of the movie having never heard of it before.

Add to that these are gonna be retailing for buttons and they should be very easy decisions for fans of the films, Dredd in particular. The more "b-list" movies the merrier, it needs to be shown that there's a market for these kinds of catalogue titles as well as all the really, really, really, really, really good-looking blockbustery stuff.

So earnings at the box office represents quality now? Guess those Transformers flicks are masterpieces.

All in all, ended up only getting PEII and Patriots Day. Decided to wait for a sale or box set on the HP and FF movies. Got the 3D version of Beasts but may eventually double dip on the 4K when it goes on sale, same for Smurfs.

I only got the Harry Potters and Fantastic Beasts. I love the slipcovers so I'm not waiting for a box set lol

I have no need to own Why Him? (Bought a UV code), I'm really getting tired of Peter Berg's fetishization of American tragedies so I skipped Patriots Day (bought a UV code) and Planet Earth II I'll pick up when it inevitably drops low in price like the first series Blu did about 800 times.

Oh, and I've double dipped so many times on the Fast and Furious films that unless they're absolutely game changing transfers that the Blus are suddenly obsolete, I'll pass on those.

Have been blind buying way too much stuff on UHD, I'd normally just rent the BD for Patriots.

Honest, yes, ignorant? not really. Just because you like a movie doesnt automatically mean its an A-list movie. Theres nothing wrong with a B-list movie, i just want more of the big blockbuster legendary movies with big stars. I personally dont put any of the 3 above movies into the same category with movies such as Hacksaw Ridge, Saving Private Ryan, The Dark Knight, etc. A movie can be really good and kick ass and NOT be A-list, and thats okay. No reason to take it out on your keyboard

The above 3 movies, as i see it, only has 1 A-list actor, and thats the Rock. Karl Urban is a good actor, but hes usually in a supporting role, very rarely does he play the lead. Hes a great supporter, really liked him in the Star Trek films. So by definition, you cannot call Dredd an A-list movie, though most people do think its kick-ass, so ill probably pick it up. I hope its gory though. More B-list movies is good, but more A-List movies would be good too, ya knows.

https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-de...n-A-List-actor

Q: What is the definition of an "A List" actor?

A:Basically, the A-List are the most in demand actors. They are the heavy hitters that have a proven box office track record and/or proven acting chops above most others. This list changes often, due to whatever the current trends may be. An actor's personal life and public relations (or lack thereof), both positive and negative, can drastically affect their stance. Tom Cruise, while proven to be a legendary box office draw with an impeccable reputation in the industry for his drive, charisma, and acting capabilities, took a hard hit around 2005 due to his appearances and outspokenness on Oprah and The Today Show (regarding comments about his religion and his stance against drug treatment for depression). Studios were reluctant to green light a Tom Cruise flick too quickly for a few years. He has finally begun to climb out of that hole, thanks in part to his comedic turn in Tropic Thunder and especially the upcoming buzz for his musical turn in Rock Star and the fourth (and perhaps his final) installment of his Mission Impossible franchise. So it all depends on the current trends, who is showing the best turn of profit (Shia LaBeouf is one of the better bets these days), and who has the best reputation within the industry.

When a studio can't land X amount of A-List stars in their casting, they go down to their B-List, which can be best described as "the second choice" (After going down the A-List of course). B-Listers can very well become A-Listers, given the right casting and the right vehicles. One needs to look no further than Bradley Cooper, a former B-Lister who proved he could open a movie with his recent Limitless.

Seems like you both misunderstood each other. You were just stating what you want and these were in fact B-List movies, doesn't mean you were trying to say they were bad. Then the other guy (already forgot his name because I'm a terrible person) was trying to state that even though A-List blockbusters are good, there's also a good market for these types of movie to be had.

I'll be getting Dredd day 1 no question. I'll wait on Ex Machina reviews to see if it worth the upgrade and I won't be getting snitch.

Ex Machina is one of the best movies I've seen in the last few years so it's a day 1 buy for sure, soft lensing or not, "B-movie" or not.

Eh. If ray wants to call them shit movies by another name then that's fine, but I still don't get what stating the box office has to do with them being on UHD, nor whether they've got any "A-list" stars. My brain just don't work that way when it comes to assessing a movie's UHD worthiness, i.e. I couldn't give a **** who stars in it or how much money it made: if it's a movie I like then GIMME GIMME GIMME DAT UHD!!!

The simple fact is that Dredd has gone over like gangbusters on home video which is why it's a canny choice from Lionsgate. Ex Machina may be less obvious but clearly that must've sold well enough to prompt them to release it on UHD, although not without a great big "VFX OSCAR WINNER!" banner.

Whiplash only made something like $11M worldwide and it's a fantastic movie.

If you've got the Phantasm box set ordered then she might end up killing you before the divorce goes through!

I've got them both pre-ordered and not sure which one to cancel! I feel her steely gaze on the back of my neck as I decide.
