So it looks like a 4K physical format is moving ahead steadily so what films would you consider to rebuy in 4K?
I would say Blade Runner and all the Kubrick films

Also Star Wars.

I saw the Sony 4K tv today and what really impressed was the depth in the picture. This is a LCD so it will look even better on a OLED with much better contrast.

It'll be quite a while before I jump on the 4k bandwagon, but I'd likely pick up Blade Runner, Wings of Desire, the Alien films, anything by Godard, and Raimi's Spider-man trilogy before anything else.

None. Until 4K hardware is at non early adopter prices. I lobbied hard for Blu-ray against HD-DVD. I lobbied hard for DVD against DIVX.

I think I am going to sit this battle out. I don't want download and streaming to win from a quality standpoint. But I don't have it in me to go through another home video battle.

Blu-ray is going to be around for a while and I'm going to be content with it.

I never said never. I'm just sitting this round out. If the technology is good it will bring willing consumers for it. I've got a lot of financial responsibilities at this point in my life so I am choosing to pass on helping the industry subsidize the 4K push.

I am not super pumped for 4K.

First of all, it must be in a physical medium. No streaming, no downloading nonsense. I don't mind requiring new hardware to play a new discussion format (eg. Triple layer BD or BDXL), it just has to be physical.

Secondly, I must make sure it's authored with a 4K or higher resolution master. I will not accept any lower.

One exception, unless there's an upgrade in audio. Not so much for higher resolution or sampling rate, but something that embraces the new cinema formats. Eg. Dolby Atmos or Auro 11.1

That being said, I don't see myself getting much 4K movies in the near future.

Many movies are distributed in 2K in digital cinemas.

It will be a while for me before I go 4k. I have a 50inch tv, so 4k is pretty pointless. I don't know if I'll ever own a huge 85inch tv.

Plus I don't think criticizing the BD fans that aren't really excited about 4K is really fair.

Hollywood is creating new formats every 8-10 years with the hope that film fans will repurchase their libraries.

As others have pointed out in the grand scheme of things there really aren't a lot of films that have be archived in 4K or higher resolution. A BD copy that comes from a high quality source can look pretty dam good even home theater size projection setups.

Look if it takes off and eventually comes down in price I may consider upgrading equipment and some titles but I doubt there is going to be enough of a difference on most titles.

In regards to that ‘e.g.’, since NATO (see http://natoonline.org/) does not support the adoption of any proprietary sound formats, immersive sound is currently a contentious issue with D-Cinema stakeholders.

Many of the movies that have been posted in this thread don't look that great on Blu-ray (or at the very least can't compare with the best looking movies on Blu-ray) so I highly doubt they'll get a big improvement on 4K.

I'm interested in 4K but I doubt I'll rebuy many (if any) movies that were made more than 5 years ago on it. I will definitely do thorough research with reviews and screenshots on each movie before I even consider a purchase.
