Default The Muppet Movie: Nearly 35th Anniversary Edition

According to this site's review of The Odd Life of Timothy Green, there's a trailer on it for a Blu-ray release of The Muppet Movie next year. Looks like Disney is going to be doing what they should've done in 2011 by releasing the original films to pave the way for the new one.

The site's review doesn't mention a time frame. Anyone else who's seen the trailer know if they mention a month or even a season? I'm going to assume spring since we got The Muppet Christmas Carol in the winter. Maybe Muppet Treasure Island will come in the summer, and then The Great Muppet Caper (which supposedly is the influence for the new one) in the fall right before the new film debuts.

And hopefully with the films on BD, we can finally get seasons four and five of The Muppet Show on DVD.

Can't wait for The Muppet Movie on blu!! Also, why settle on Muppet Show DVDs when Disney should be putting it out on blu ray?

As much as that'd be killer, I doubt Disney would want to spend the capital in creating HD transfers for the show. I'd love to be wrong but if they've taken this long to squeeze seasons 4 and 5 out, I can't imagine them wanting to jump into Blu-ray with the series. I really hope the show can be wrapped up by the time the next Muppets movie hits screens.

Of course, they'll be cutting the "Rainbow Connection" number from the film, because too many kids found it boring.

Unfortunately the Muppet Show was shot on videotape, not film, so there wouldn't be any improvement on blu ray. Definitely looking forward to seeing the movies on blu though!

I thought it was recorded on videotape in standard definition.

Ooh, nice surprise announcement there! Saw this for the first time this year and liked it! Might be the ideal time to pick it up if it comes out in the UK.
Hoping to see The Great Muppet Caper sooner rather than later! Only seen it once a couple months ago, but I remember really enjoying it (especially the Happiness Hotel song), and I think it's my favourite of the older Muppet movies (except Christmas Carol).

I'll keep an eye on any Muppet announcements. Hope we see that boxed set that was announced a little while back too!

I'm super-excited for this release, hopefully it materializes sooner rather than later. I got to see a screening of the restored film earlier this year and it looked great so hopefully that holds up!

Fantastic news. One of my favorite movies when I was a kid.

My dad always tells the story of how when I was little, we went to FAO Schwartz (a once huge toy store in NYC), and he said I can have anything in the store, the the absolute only thing I wanted was The Muppet Movie (or Muffet Movie as I called it) on VHS
