I understand that it will take a while, because musicals are not "mainstream" popular anymore. When DVD got these, that's when we knew the format had arrived as a mass-market platform.
The studio distribution for these is: Warner:5 Fox:3 Universal:1 Last edited by Jim L; 03-14-2008 at 12:23 PM. |

They are finally releasing HIT THE DECK on SD next month. Don't know why that isn't on Blu. The huge "Satan Lies Awaiting" sequence looked remarkable on THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT, even when so much of that film was too grainy. And I will definitely buy Victor/Victoria in Blu. |

Well, the list here is impressive, especially well done to markjdye. I'd buy quite a number of those. I agree with any of the R&H stuff comments, My Fair Lady, etc., etc.
When it comes to "anything Disney", though, I think "Marry Poppins" deserves particular mention. This was one of the few films that Walt himself lavished attention on, more than any since the very early animated films, gave Julie Andrews her real break, and so on and so on. And as everyone knows, Disney does real justice to their films when transferring them. I actually wrote to Disney and suggested this to Blu some time ago, and they responded that they would refer my suggestion to the proper sources (a stock answer I'm sure, but I bet they did it, too). And for world class cheese: "Can't Stop the Music". |
