I saw that one recently for the first time.
Generally, with musicals in particular, I don't think they should be remade later, becuse they tend to lose a sense of the zeitgeist at the time when they were first written, and so end up feeling rootless. But with A Chorus Line, sad to say, I really didn't think the film came close to catching any sense of the original stage show, or of the world it was trying to depict. It's one where I wouldn't object to a remake. Last edited by MacEachaidh; 06-07-2013 at 01:51 PM. |

I just ordered the region free 'Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' on bluray from the UK. I was reading some of the reviews on it and sadly, it appears to be just a copy of the DVD. Also, someone said it appeared to be stretched to fit widescreen, and not the original ratio. But then again, wasn't it originally released for Full-Screen TV's? I don't see them going back and changing it's ratio for wide-screen TV's.
I would LOVE for them to completely re-do this for wide-screen TV's, but I doubt it will ever happen. I'm also afraid the upcoming release of CATS will be the same way. Once my copy arrives, I'll check it out and report back. |

It hasn't been stretched. It's in its original 16x9 ratio - I have it. It will fill your wide TV screen - although it is closer to 1.66-1.75 so you get slight black bars either side of the image. The UK DVD release was in the same ratio. Here, in the UK, the DVD has never been released in a 4x3 'full screen' ratio. With regards to Cats, here it was available in widescreen on DVD but not 16x9 enhanced - so letterboxed. Its ratio is probably the same as Joseph's. It's a pretty safe bet that when it's released on Blu it will be 16x9, correctly formatted just like Joseph - no black bars top and bottom but slight ones either side. Don't expect much in the video department for Joseph, though. It barely looks better than an upscaled DVD. Hope that clears things up. Matt ![]() Last edited by MattDean; 07-01-2013 at 09:22 PM. |
