Love that blankie....but I'd still rather get the tingles from actually watching the restored original version.

Mine are. They're just not blu. Sure, the resolution is a little lower, but they have all the scenes and effects I remember as a kid, and that's what we all want, isn't it? Or are we so obsessed with image quality we'll refuse to watch what we personally consider to be the superior version of a film, out of what...? Spite?

DVD and Digital sales are thwarting it right now. It won't last another three years. I haven't bought a blu in five years, I think.

Were you one of the guys telling me on DVDFile in 2002 that CDs and DVDs would be gone entirely within a few years? 'Cause it's 2017 and... nope. A lot of people like physical purchases, they aren't going away, even if they get more niche.

I hope mainstream DVD releases are dead before the decade is out. VideoCD is still a damn thing in some countries.

The comment above the one about dwindling blu sales was far more relevant to this thread, but I knew you lot would obsess over that one...

The demise of bluray is always five years away. I've been hearing that since it was released and, as the people saying it were also saying that bluray would be the last physical format, I've decided they are always entirely wrong about everything anyway.

It really wasn't. I've got them on VHS and DVD somewhere as well. It's not what people in the BLURAY.COM forum are interested in. (Clue is in the name).

That's silly. Look at the bar at the top that says Blu-Ray, 4K, DVD, UV, etc.

I thought we were interested in movies, not the capacity of the disk we buy them on...

Sucks for you then. You'll never be happy and have your beloved UOT, unlike millions of others.

It's possible to be interested in both. If somebody's still able to enjoy a laserdisc transfer ported onto a DVD then more power to them. Me? I can still enjoy a decently made DVD but that digital afterthought is a bridge too far.

Actually I don't care much about digital or physical media. All I care is the picture and audio quality. So far digital media is very far behind, I don't understand how film enthusiasts can accept inferior quality.

They went for VHS over Betamax. But there are massive articles on it.

Buying a digital copy online is often the cheapest way for me to see a movie I'm curious about. I buy blu rays of my favorites.

Because, no matter the quality, the story, the thing that really matters, stays the same.

I grew up with a cropped, 4:3 Star Wars on VHS. It was the best movie I'd ever seen. It's how I experienced many of the greats on the first time round.

I agree to a point, but after experiencing the Blu-Ray format since 2010, I can't see myself going back to DVD on a regular basis. I highly doubt 4K will be the same kind of breakthrough Blu-Ray was, though.
