I don't understand why you got so defensive when I mentioned it though, I wasn't "hating" on the concert, just pointing out the prequel's exclusion. I understand you strongly dislike the prequels now, like many others, but the scores are still excellent, and that's the purpose of the concert, to appreciate and celebrate the music of the Star Wars saga. You seem pretty pee'd off and defensive there, when I wasn't trying to start some kind of argument. As I said, I just thought it was a bit of a slap in the face to John Williams to exclude the prequels from this concert, and it felt like it was the Disney machine trying to pretend they don't exist. But like you, I still think there would be an audience for them to be included, in some form. |

I went last night. It was AMAZING! I'm so excited for Empire, Jedi, and Awakens. *I've seen Williams conduct Star Wars music live feet away from me many times, but the music itself seemed to have so much more umph and power here. Not sure if it was the venue (one of the most legendary concert halls of all time), the orchestra, or just because I was up on the balcony, but the actual sound and power of the music was amazing.
I'm so excited for Empire, Jedi, and Force Awakens. *Star Wars was extraordinary - the power of the drums during the Tusken Raider attack, the dramatic roll and burst of the Imperial/Death Star theme, the gentle beauty of Leia's theme (which I've heard live before, but matched with her scenes,*it was even better), the thunderous Throne Room - truly breathtaking. *Even the Main Title was even better, live and unrestricted from the not-as-full-sounding '77 recording that was limited by the tech at the time (I love the OST, but it does have that older-recorded-score sound that's hard to describe). * Imagining what this will be like with the Imperial March during Vader's first scene in Empire, the furious Clash of the Lightsabers, the heartbreaking carbon freezing chamber scene,*that dramatic Imperial March statement after Vader's famous line, the Emperor's theme in Jedi, Luke and Vader's final duel, the harp when Anakin dies, and so much more... this will all be mind blowing. *I just wonder what they'll do about the choirs in Jedi and Awakens. *It was a shame Cantina Band wasn't live, so who knows? *Nevertheless, I can't wait. |

But, again, I'm all for Disney pretending they don't exist. We're all better off ignoring that they ever happened. ![]() No. Scroll up. It's David Newman. |

Thanks very much to IndyMLVC for the program photos, I'm sure it would be great hearing any of those orchestra performances.
I love all of Star Wars... 'blunt truth' ![]() But at the same time I don't see it as some huge slap in the face against either Williams or Star Wars to not have included the prequels' scores in that series of performances. There could be many reasons why this was the case, from the false perception that 'everyone'™ hates the prequels, to Disney/Lucasfilm wanting to concentrate on the original trilogy and sequels at the moment because of where they're at with the films being released, to maybe the orchestra just didn't want to have to practice for 7 films at once, or maybe demand was assumed to be too high for the ones they did to put on another 3 nights, or that it would get too expensive for people to go to all 7... or other reasons I haven't even thought of. |

So the final shot in the Han Solo movie is going to be him in the Mos Eisley cantina shooting Greedo in cold blood and then it will cut to an advert that Lucasfilm will be releasing the unaltered trilogy on home video...

Sadly, the only time I've heard a live orchestra perform music to great classic films was a celebration of music for the Warner Bros. Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts...conductor was going through the motions, would even walk offstage (I have a sneaky suspicion the dude was drunk). He comes back, says some blatant bullshit -- my wife told me I should I go backstage and correct him, of all things, I told her no...anyway...the conductor only mentioned Carl Stalling once. I'm in the Majestic in San Antonio -- the same venue George Strait held his Hurricane Harvey relief concert last week -- he mentions Carl Stalling, and in this giant house, I was the only one who started clapping at the mention of his name. Conductor says, "Yes. Please." and then the whole place started clapping.
Anyhoo, the Maestro did great work in the Prequels, I don't think his work was served well by Lucas futzing with things again and again and tracking his music because of Lucas constantly re-editing, Williams never had a locked print to score to. Still, great work. Sometimes you have to start the applause. |

Making a film is always a work in progress until release date, sometimes even beyond that. With reshoots and changes in such a music-heavy film there will be some challenge editing them together. The music plays almost non-stop. But I only heard about issues only in Clones before, not the other two of the prequels. The music was edited nicely especially in Menace. So I don't know where did this new complants come from.
