I think what your saying is Blu-ray wish to sell the greatest number of titles in the crucial holiday period, backing this up with a cheaper PS3 and standalone's, whereas HD-DVD are strategically placing titles to win specific weeks.

HD-DVD may win some bragging rites on niche forums, but selling day and date product in the heat of the holiday season is were the big bucks will be made.

I think the blu-ray numbers recently have also been affected by people saving up their purchases for the same week of Transformer.. as someone else said a steady purchase rate rather than spikes would be better in the long run...

Haven't read thru all the posts..sorry if it was already brought up.

I think the last buy-athon showed that the number of people interested in bumping the numbers only do so by a point or two.

Yes I'm saving up to buy me some catalog titles that week, but no, it's not affecting much

I have really bad news with regards to these numbers today. Upon further investigation and using the fuzzy math from AVMS forum DUD lovers, it appears that blu-ray sales are now BEHIND by about 7 or 8%.

Don't let their fuzzy math get you down. Their fuzzy picture should cheer you up.

Seriously though, with the news about the FastMac BD drive being released and all, Toshiba is looking kinda lonely out in the CE world.

I agree. If Transformers cannot move the SI or YTD numbers, that should spell trouble for HD DVD.

I expect SM to move the numbers towards BR.

BTW, wasn't it an HD DVD claim that the demographics of the 300 crowd fit into the PS3 demographics more that then HD DVD one???

How does that not apply to Transformers? Guess that argument had to change when Paramount took the money....

I plan on a Blu buying blitz that week. I won't surrender one week to the acolytes from HD DVD!

Are they really arguing that?

I think it'd be quite clear had TF been a dual format release this 16th of October, you'd see some massive sales...on Blu-Ray, outweighing those on HD-DVD.

Let's just say what could've been a single title pulling in 300k plus now becomes a single title MAYBE reaching 100k.

They were and I actually agreed with that. I also agree with you in that Transformers would have sold a boat load on BD, better than 300 imo...clearly burying HD DVD in same title sales.

Guess it was worth the $150M to hide that embarrassment again...

No, I think the argument was that 300 fit the PS3 demographic more than other movies. They cited Planet Earth, which despite us winning the last while, has still sold more copies on HD DVD.
The theory is that BD has 6 times the number of players, so movies that appeal to most of those "6 times" folks, the PS3 owners, will slaughter the HD side, where movies that don't appeal to them will be far closer.
Interestingly, even with a title like 300 and 6 times the players, it's still only doing 2x the sales. What will it take for the PS3 folks to stop playing warhawk long enough to get off their butts and buy a movie? Imagine the sales if someone could get every PS3 owner to just buy, say, spiderman 3. It would shift the SI numbers singlehandedly to 75:25 from the 61:39 it's currently sitting at.

Fuzzy math is not real math. Nobody is going to be looking at their numbers except for themselves and maybe you. They are trying to congratulate themselves and scare you with their FUD. I would like to see how they will try to twist the numbers for the coming week.

Same here! Transformers getting the #1 spot is an inevitablity, but that doesn't mean they'll necessarily win the week (possibly their only week this year). If Blu does win that week (and I admit that's an iffy proposition), it'll be damned close. But it'll be soul crushing the HD DVD supporters. Well, until we have to take Evan Almighty... ;-)

Anyways, I'm planning to order ~10 BDs from Amazon that week to do my bit. Even if we win by just 51:49, it'll be a significant victory.

All I want is to see the YTD numbers move to a true 2:1 ratio or better in BD's favor...and trust that Warner's sales for the year will be consistent with that (or better).

I admire your devotion, but Transformers will surely tip the scales for the week.

It's no big deal - major new release titles are going to drive sales on both sides.

I am quite pleased overall. This is the 2nd 100+ million blockbuster HD Exclusive that HASNT won that week for HD DVD (BOG was the first one, and both KU and BOG had Helper Day/Date titles in the form of Heroes Season 1 and Next as well), the 40 gig PS3 gets confirmed and Amir leaves AVS as the HD DVD Douchebag. You know, things could have been a LOT worse lol.

You know, I've been thinking the same thing. Us Blu-ray supporters should really try and "infiltrate" PS3 console forums, for people that play games but either don't know or don't normally care about high-def movies and tell them to support Blu-ray (and by doing that supporting PS3 in the process) by buying or at least renting a Blu-ray movie, like one of these huge upcoming blockbusters like Fantastic four 2, Spiderman 3, Live Free or Die Hard or any other movie they like.

Can you all imagine the sales ratios if a couple of million PS3 owners would suddenly buy just one Blu-ray movie within the next couple of months
