didnt Vaughn say teh top three were the only Nielsen sales figures above 10k.....thus Pirates did VERY close to 100k via only nielsen as PE on HD DVD at 12 would have to be equal to roughly 10k.

Thats pretty damn high for Pirates and Superbad at roughly 35k relative to past weeks.

The 72:28 a few weeks back was partially due to Best Buy giving away Open Season with PS/3. They counted and made Open Season the #2 title for that week with 50% of the sales of Live Free or Die Hard!

Both sides are doing it. I suspect such things are going to be factored into any decision process. No studio can assume the CE are going to continue to buy their titles for the consumer forever.

I've waited all year to see this movie as I did not see in the theaters. You can count on my sales to make this purchase.

Nice results this week; I had to figure Pirates and Superbad day and date versus nothing really new for the other side produce a strong week.

Still, I was hoping we'd get a point in the YTD or Since Inception column.

With no significant HD-DVD exclusives through to the end of the year, looks like we can safely call this year for BD, and pretty safely be sure not a single week will have been lost.

GO AWAY HD-DVD.

Here's my estimate using 160k for Potc3.

A little speculative, seeing the 160k number is not FirstAlert, and may not be same as HMM.

Week ending Dec9, some unit estimates.

Code:
POTC3 100 160,000
Superbad 37.46 59,936
PE-HD 12.38 19,808
Spidey3 10.51 16,816
TF 7.49 11,984
DH4 7.4 11,840
PE-BD 6.77 10,832
POTC2 6.7 10,720
RAT 6.69 10,704
300-BD 5.39 8,624 Shrek3-HD 4.46 7,129
Bourne2 2.32 3,718
300-HD 2.14 3,424

OHHHH, that's gotta hurt! I let out a laugh at my desk when I saw that. I know those numbers were "leaked" yesterday or the day before, but seeing the "truth" as HD DVD fanboys have to have it in writing, was just icing on the cake. Next week's numbers will be the final hurdle of the year for a clean-sweep, and it will be gravy after that! Keep buying those titles everyone!

Planet Earth has amazing legs.

The BD version sold on the order as Transformers.

It really looks like a one hit wonder for HD DVD.

The recent resurgence has everything to do w/ Oprah hyping it as THE X-mas must-have title.

Oprah does move markets.

It looks like only 2 titles have any kind of legs on HD-DVD. Transformers and Planet Earth. Bourne will sell well on HD-DVD as it is a new release, but does it have THAT big a following? Potter will probably rule..

GO AWAY HD-DVD.
Bourne next week is a significant exclusive but I agree with the rest of the sentiment.

Universal has moved "The Kingdom" and "Eastern Promises" to December 23rd which is when "Rush Hour 3" is coming out on Blu-ray. Since December 23rd is a Sunday, the first day sales of these titles will reflect in the numbers for the "The Simpsons" week. While I expect most of these titles will actually be counted in the following week's numbers, it should help soften the blow for the ratio the week of the 26th. Paramount still hasn't moved up "The Heartbreak Kid", but I figure the normal "catalog" titles sell better on Blu-ray will help us win the week of the 26th... barring any new HD DVD player owners rushing out to buy new HD DVDs... which I don't really see happening... and should be countered by new PS3 owners buying Blu-ray titles should it happen.

Even then, I think that Planet Earth will continue to outsell any HD DVD title. Potter and Bourne will be HUGE for a couple weeks then they will drop off just like all of their other titles (i.e. shrek the third) while PE stays on the top of their list.

How many more copies of planet earth can they sell?!?! Im sure that they have reached everyone who owns DUD by now!

HD DVD was forced to buy Paramount. I imagine they tried to buy Warner but were rejected.

If Paramount was neutral, this would have been over before the Christmas season.
