I think they need to play a little catch up on pricing. That article in there stating that consumers are choosing HD-DVD because of price... what evidence supports that. Not to mention, the lowest Samsung model is only $40 more than the lowest price Poshiba 1080P model. $40 is a drop in the bucket to go from Red to Blu.

As awesome as the weekly ratio is, I do not understand how it is only 3:1 given the relative values of sales of the top 10 titles. Are the catalogue titles not selling on BD at all?
Or is it something else? |

I always wonder about this. If HD downloads do take off, MS has to contend with Apple to begin with. Apple has disney and pixar in their pocket while MS has only managed to piss of BD studios big time. Secondly, even if they can get on good terms with the studios, how do they realistically intend to beat iTunes?
I really think it is all about slowing down PS3 adoption. When one has a last-gen disc drive while your big competitor not only has a next gen drive but can also spur adoption of the console via a cutting-edge movie-format value-proposition, your choice is clear: FUD the movie-format to hell and back. Even if the format wins ultimately, it would be at a much higher cost while it costs you almost nothing. And if the war is a stalemate, the competitive console has to be re-engineered with a dual format drive, driving up costs. And if in the process you destroy HDM, ah well... collateral damage. Scumbags. |

Must not have read it close enough, good... because nothing HD-DVD ever comes up with is ACTUAL, it's always BS.

What is more accurate is to compare the two top 5s: BD - 100, 37.46, 10.51, 7.40, 6.77, Total 162.14 then scale the HD by 0.1238: HD DVD - 12.38, 7.49, 4.46, 2.32, 2.15, Total 28.8 This gives an 84:16 ratio, but if you compare the ratio of the 5th place titles, it is only 75:25. We can expect the ratio lower down to be more like the YTD figure of 65:35, which is what pulls down the overall ratio from the 84:16 of the top 5 down to the week's ratio of 76:24. |

Simple. 10-12+ free HDDVDs when you purchase a A30. The way they are being handled is such that they are being counted in the Nielsens. It is enough to keep the bottom rung titles in the zone to increase weekly sales; however, not enough to put any of them in the top 10 except for the couple/few that are always there. It really is despicable and under handed to try and artificially change the numbers this way. At least with Blu-ray they use a mail in thing so the five free discs do not count. Blu-ray would have probably hit 85-90% last week if it weren't for this deviousness. I'm all for BOGO's to combat big releases because they are titles that sell for _something_ but _free_ titles that have no revenue and people are only picking up because they are _free_ should not be counted. |

We need those Ocean's 13 numbers!!!
Here's a theory I got about the Bourne movie... Everyones worried about this one but it could be HD-DVD's worse enemy. You see, I believe this will cut into the Harry Potters numbers on the HD-DVD side as most people don't buy every movie and will have to choose one or the other... and what we need now is high ratio Warner titles. Also... I am convinced Planet Earth is being accidentally picked up by unsuspecting DVD users. At these number, PE should be one of the top sellers on any HD format right now. Why no press release about it? Because Nielson doesn't track returns.... |

ah, I see. I underestimated the volume of catalogue sales relative to volume of new ones in my rough calc.
