Of course they have a huge article in there about people wanting to buy HD DVD cause its cheaper, right above the Stats for the week, year, and overall sales showing Blu-ray in the lead (76%!), and it continues on a page that talks about the price of HD DVD being cheaper, right next to a blurb about a BD player for around $260! That is only a $60 difference, plus you get your movie in 1080p and not 1080i (granted it can not play profile 1.1...)

Still, that article seems like BS when you look at the actual facts! Plus what about the prices dropping so much? And DVD sales are still so strong I think that is a bigger threat to Blu-ray than HD DVD is!

Only 300 was part of a BOGO last week, right, and only for part of the week? Heck, even their spin now has no spin!

YES INDEED WARNER BROS AND NEWLINE ARE SEEING THE momentum of BD and others do including Paramount and Universal.

BUT WARNER is going to choose a side and this side is BD ,we have the advantage now and in future ,let's keep our demanding for BD and especially Warner strong and a complete dominant till the holidays and after it.January will talk about itself..the Deadline

You can no longer count on 300's accuracy because it comes with A3s so don't get counted as HD-DVD movie sales.

DVD is still huge competition to Blu just like VHS was big competition to DVD at first. IMO, this format war is slowing the adoption of HD discs and players with many waiting for this war to end. Once it does I believe sales of players & dics will finally take off.

As I mentioned on the insider's thread, it seems that Warner has stacked the deck for that one. 300 got Pip and a combo disc on HD DVD, but they had a $5 higher MSRP. For Harry Potter they again gave the HD DVD PiP (but some extras got high definition on the BD) and spent the extra money to do combo discs, but this time didn't put any higher MSRP. Probably eating the cost of the combo themselves. So, people should could this in mind and that it is likely to take even more to get close to 2:1 for Blu-ray than 300.
The question is, how much of the Warner on Blu-ray sales are "neutral" owners. Unless that number was high, the additional features on the HD DVD are a "moo" point ("Friends" reference). While I own a HD DVD player (hopefully for not much longer), I'd take the Blu-ray over the HD DVD any day, and not just because it's my preference, not just because I don't want to waste the money on a HD DVD, but for the fact that I would much prefer having High-Def extras over the IME and "internet features" that the HD DVD offers. "300", IMO, had a MUCH better feature with their "green screen" PiP, which even I would like to have should they get around to doing that "Special Edition" on Blu-ray in the next few years... as well as a similar feature on the eventual "Sin City" release.

What I'm more worried about is the effect of Warner's packaging gaffe. Say someone gets a set, it has the HD DVD in it, so they take it back to the store only to find that they no longer have any of the sets. I would also be more worried that Blu-ray owners might purchase the box set more than the individuals, and the HD DVD owners might buy the individual sets more, resulting in a closer sales ratio...

Someone please correct me if my math is wrong, but it looks like the Top 10 HD Sellers have a ratio of 90:10 in favor of Blu-ray. How the heck did all the bottom dwellers have enough sales to shift the ratio down to 76:24 overall?

the war needs to end! We see the numbers! Blu-ray is way in the lead in US, more so in UK, AU, and the most in JPN! The war needs to end! No one will adopt a format if they do not know who will win! Plus people are getting confused with the two formats.
Why can't HD DVD just give up the fight and let Blu-ray win so that there will still be high def discs 5 years from now?!

If it wasn't for the 800lb gorilla interfering with events the war would probably be over by now. Of course we all know what the gorilla wants in the end.

What needs to be done is that weekly console sales are accounted for, and whatever free-disc offers are available be entered into the equation.

Right now, it seems that someone can wrangle 10+ free HD DVD discs that are put through as sales with every A3 purchase. How in the hell do you compete with that type of artificial inflation?

Am I totally out in left field with this one?

Yes and unfortunately they also see the PE #'s. I guess when you have limited content a long documentary is right up their ally.

Great numbers. POTC AWE and Superbad totally dominate. 8 out of the top 10titles are blu-ray, Spider-Man 3 easily beat Transformers. Maybe Anthony P can work the 300 Blu-ray and HD DVD ratios for us. It will be appreciated
