However, for the last week the 40 GB has been ranked ahead of the 80GB console. In fact, right now the 40GB PS3 is ranked #18 and the 80GB ps3 is #19. Those rankings are higher than I have notice, including the entire month of December. In addittion, the PS3 Blu-ray remote is #9, which is also much higher than I have ever noticed.
Yeah but you have to watch Amazon, I have trouble trusting sales rankings from them when they rate "The best of Blu Ray family" sales as ranking higher for HD DVD than for Blu Ray... HUH?

Maybe the HD DVD guys just enjoy holding the BR disk up to the light so they can look at the pretty blue color.

I have never seen Amazon list anything of the sort. I have seen another site supposedly using Amazon data, and that site had some howlers like that, but I have never seen that on Amazon itself.

Link?

So volume is low enough that the Amazon BOGO which included Potter affects their overall results? Or was it a slew of late returns from 1/4 - 1/6?

Likely the latter. Sales are not counted until scanned out, and discs are not scanned out until shipped.

I'm refering to the Warner wars site:
http://www.blu-crew.com/WarnerWars.php

On at least 5 occasions, I have seen the "Best of BR Family" ranked higher for HD DVD. I thought that's where the poster was getting his/her data from.

........................................BR Rank........HD DVD Rank
Best of Blu-ray, Action............ 9632.........25772
Best of Blu-ray, Family.............31551........32856
Best of Blu-Ray, Volume One.....11415........37198
Best of Blu-Ray, Volume Three...9331.........12893
Best of Blu-Ray, Volume Two.....7252..........34198

Note the much higher rank for volume three. There shouldn't be any rank for HD DVD

Now look at the following:.........BR Rank.......HD DVD Rank
Aviator....................................2973... ........13967

According to Amazon (assuming their link is correct), more HD DVD people are buying BR volume three than are buying Aviator????

Like I said, maybe they just like holding up to the light???

It has been so hectic that nobody even cares about this thread I still want to know the numbers for last week. Has DV leaked anything? Probably his sources have dried up due to the WB announcement.

forgive me for asking (maybe I am just one of the people who asked), but can we expect the first number in 2008 today?

Don't worry about it, things are kinda skewed with the numbers. Last week David Vaugh leaked the numbers for the final week of 2007 (Last Thursday) to be 61-39 Blu, Home Media Magazine is a week behind their usual, so last Friday they reported the numbers for the week endind Dec 23, 2007 (they should have reported for the week ending on the 30th). If HMM reports the numbers for the 12/30/07 week (they are known to be 61-39 Blu) then it does not informs us to much. We do not know the results for the 01/06/08 week: Resident Evil: Extinction, Shoot Em Up, and War week! If they get back on track, the numbers released tomorrow by HMM should be for the week ending 01/06/08.

I'm not sure from reading your comments whether you are missing that like golf, lower scores are better. The best selling DVD is rank #1. Also, with things ranking at 10k and above, one or 2 people could move a titles ranking by buying it.

As a sidenote, to solve some of the confusion, click the relevant link.

For HD-DVD, it's "Best of HD-DVD, Volume 3", etc...

Just mentioning because it confused me as well until I went to that site and checked it out.

Well, I can't get too excited about the numbers coming out, as they are from the final 61:39 week that Blu won last year, which is cool. But there should hopefully be a very large shift beginning the first week, probably even before the WB announcement. I'm hoping week 1 of 2008 is about 70:30.

Interesting to see SciFi.com 's Top 10 SF&F Genre DVD sales
for jan 4, 2008 (from Amazon) as:

1. 300 (Blu-ray)
2. Lost season three
3. Ratatouille
4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
5. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Blu-ray)
6. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Blu-ray)
7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Blu-ray)
8. Resident Evil: Extinction
9. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Blu-ray)
10. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Just to emphasize; HD DVD is over and done and our new challenge is the end of consumer's hesitation which will be indicated by Blu-Ray ranking vs. DVD sales.

Right, that's not the Amazon site. I don't think a site is discredited by a link to it on another site that is incorrect.

Again, you're holding Amazon accountable for another site's problem. And it's not that major of a problem. If you actually click through to Amazon, you'll see all of those are boxed sets that have a "Best of Blu-ray" version and a "Best of HD DVD" version with the same set of movies in each.

So instead of Amazon being really messed up, they have no problem at all, and the site linking to them is only messed up probably because they were trying to save space or have a technical limitation (perhaps the site software uses the first title and assumes the second is the same). I agree it's kind of lame, but it's not Amazon's fault.

Amazon is showing a higher sales rank for "The Best of HD DVD, Volume Three" than they are showing for the HD DVD version of "The Aviator", and the blu-crew site has mislabeled the former. None of that is a knock on Amazon.

Or maybe the blu-crew should fix their site or people should stop blaming its mistakes on Amazon.
