Hd dvd will be lucky to ever see the 30's again.
They could do a clearance which might help their numbers for a week or two.

If I'm wrong I won't lose any sleep. I'm no Nostradomus, if I were I would of said something more like, "the newer of the new story telling mechanisms will see a surge like an angry sea that will roll across the new country nearly obliterating the red faction. Look for a new king to be crowned ushering in peace once again to the people who favor the story pictures."
You're starting to sound like Dave Vaugn!

I agree with your numbers. They could be very BIG for Blu-ray. Let's consider the factors for Blu-ray.

1) Warner announced they were dumping HD DVD on January 4th. The media latched onto this immediately and for the next few days (and beyond) the news was all over the online/offline media.

2) The next set of Nielsen's cover the period January 7th to 13th. This will be the first full week following the WB announcement and the flood of press articles declaring Blu-ray winner of the format war.

3) The Amazon Blu-ray sale will feature in the week ending January 13th (not a huge amount but significant)

4) Anecdotal evidence has shown that BD players are flying off retailer shelves and on Amazon the $400 Panasonic BD30 outsold the A3 (although now Amazon have cut the A3 to below $150 it has gone back to the top - I hope the poor saps buying it realise it's basically an upconverter).

5) Confidence in HD DVD has completely collapsed.

6) Here's the new Blu-ray titles for this week (Jan 7 to 13):

3:10 to Yuma (2007) (Lionsgate)
Con Air (Buena Vista)
Dragon Wars (Sony)
Killing Machine/Shogun's Ninja (BCI)
Man on Fire (Fox)
Night of the Werewolf/Vengeance of the Zombies (BCI)
The Rock (Buena Vista)
Sister Street Fighter/Sister Street Fighter 2 (BCI)
Sunshine (Fox)

So, all things considered we should be seeing a massive boost to Blu-ray movie sales and a market share of 80% is quite likely. But if it's in the high 70's I won't be too sad.

I had considered the sale option.
I'm fully expecting the installed base for blu-ray to increase at a rate that would negate even a sale that would inspire all hd dvd owners to purchase movies.
Hey, I could be dead wrong. I thought that Universal would be neutral by the end of CES.

I agree with everything you said, but I was just hoping this was true for everyone. Some people just have crazy confidence in HD-DVD. I went on their site for the first time a coouple of days ago and it seemed like everything on the front page was "Blu-ray is huge and we are small, but we're amazing" type of thing. It was like every article had to talk about BD, whereas here most news is strictly BD based and we have no need to bring up HD-DVD. I think they've got a small mans complex.

It has to have been a bad sign for HD-DVD when Bourne Ultimate got outsold by Ratatouille.

I think some of the general public does not know yet. The jan issue of S&V, for example, are running full two page ads for HD-DVD (I know the mag was prpbably done in november). For the unknowing, it is business as usual. As I mentioned in another post, go to WidescreenReview home page, it all HD-DVD ads, no blu ray at all!

Give it a couple more weeks, or rather until next week, and HD-DVD numbers will drop off the face of the earth. Really, they have NOTHING coming out of significance for the foreseeable future, and that will probably not change.

Do not forget that Ken graffeo is the vice-president of the HD DVD promotional group.. I think it will still take some time to see universal makes the moves.. depending on paramount.. but anyway this is already dicussed much here!..
This week, we'll hear the song From BlU2: Frinday bloody friday!

But Spider-Man 3 comes with the $399 PS3 and is still doing quite well.

I wonder how that is going to work when Warner drops HD DVD altogether. Is the HD DVD promo group still going to be able to advertise Warner titles? I am sure they are going to have to do some website updating.

I nailed it last week and this week I predict 69-31. After this week we shall start seeing the numbers in the 70's and by April in the 80's
