Can someone please explain to me which week of releases these latest numbers include. Is this the week with no Blu-ray releases? Thanks.

No it's the week before when there were no HD-DVD releases, but the Blu-ray releases weren't exactly strong either (just one got in the top 10).

Mind you cheaper disc prices on the UK high street would help as well.

As comparing numbers goes I agree, I assume it's because those numbers are so small in relation to DVD sales and where the HD market might go, that it's a bit early yet to predict where it might all go. In that respect Warner appear to have got it right at this stage by hedging their bets.

Why is that since their (PS3) numbers should only increase over time?

Only because it still seen as a games machine by the majority of people, and as those games start appearing, and the price falls on stand-alones (the new samsung BP1400 is now the cheapest BD player here in the UK by about £100). it will lose its relevance in this war.

Very good point!!! I noticed as well that hddvd really only had two real individual sellers, as the other 2 were combos. so you dont know if they were accidental buys or people buying for the future format with no actual concept of whats going on

isnt this the almost most funniest statment ever? I mean what are these HD DVD fanboys thinking? "yea we lost this weeks numbers again, but BD should have done it better, so yes we won ? "

I'm puzzled how House of Flying Daggers is the 10th best selling title of the week, sold better than all HD DVD titles except for 300 & Planet Earth. Was there some sort of promotion involving this movie somewhere?

And listening to both sides recent announcements they do as well, and standalone sales, and disc sales.

Gazza
Attach rates are a red herring created by one side to distract people from the obvious. The simple truth is that no one really knows what the attach rates are because it is impossible to know how many people really utilize the PS3 extensively for BD viewing

The only rational assumption on attach rates is that they are probably about equal for for all who use the standalones or PS3 for serious BD viewing.

I was questioning the apparent numbers advantage in the players, rather take everything on blind faith that everything will be all right in the end.

Gazza
Not sure how you conclude that the rest of us are relying on "blind faith". You seem good at making these very long leaps in logic. Also if you agree that the PS3 is a valid standalone, then it's likely that as consumers become better educated on HD movies, blu-ray and the PS3's capabilities that more people who own a PS3 console will actually utilize it. That's not such a great leap.

Still think you're reading way too much into the tea leaves. Its relevance IS its importance early in the war when some companies, Blockbuster for example, are making key decisions. Besides you may be wrong even in time that it loses relevance. As other players get sold it will lose its share of the HD market, but it will always be the #1 HD optical player by a wide margin.

I wouldn't have confidence in HD-DVD with those numbers. Take a look at the Top 20 Blu-Ray vs. the Top 20 HD-DVD sales. X-Men: The Last Stand is the 20th best selling Blu-Ray disc for the year but it has sold more copies than all but 6 HD-DVD discs.

Likewise, looking at the combined high-def sales, only one HD-DVD exclusive title is in that list, Batman Begins, and that is supposed to hit Blu-Ray before year's end.

And I'd like to point out there are NO Paramount flicks in the Blu-Ray top 20 and a mere 2 in the HD-DVD top 20 (maybe that will change as people rush out to grab the Paramount Blu-Ray discs before they disappear for 18 months). Also, if Warner were to go Blu-Ray exclusive, half of HD-DVD's top 20 would cease to exist.
