Awe man, I just found out one of my local theaters is screening Touch of Evil tomorrow and I can't go due to a friend's birthday.

VERTIGO will be showing at the Heights Theater in the Twin Cities MN area
70MM Film Presentation!

Thursday May 14th 7:30 PM

I've owned this one from VHS / Laserdisc / DVD and BLU so it should be interesting to see in 70MM without digital manipulation of the image.

Cool. My Alamo Drafthouse showed a 35mm print of Vertigo back in March.

I no longer have to copy and paste "Le Samouraï" from the Wikipedia page. Good news, since I tend to type that movie title at least once a week in this forum.

I got my BLU today for Hangmen Also Die. I also got the DVD for Dangerous Crossing. I ordered a few old FOX DVDs like Daisy Kenyon and Vicki also. I've seend D.K. before and liked that one.

I also got my BLU of Gun Crazy from Spain today. little miffed it doesnt have DTS HD 2.0 mono like the French version. This version only contains 2.0 Dolby Digital Mono for both English and Spanish tracks

Hopefully a U.S. release will be announced soon since I just bought this edition haha

tried watching the Gun Crazy BLU and it is annoying the audio is out of sync. yuck avoid the BLU from
Spain. Now to dump this one There went 30.00

Was going to get the UK DVD release of Hangmen Also Die, until I read about the US Blu-ray release. I would be interested to read about the transfer and audio please.

Are the films I Wake Up Screaming and Somewhere in the Night classed as film noirs? If so, would like to see them get a Blu-ray release if suitable elements exist for a Blu-ray release.

Earlier tonight, I watched the 1984 film, Against All Odds, which is a loose remake of the 1947 noir masterpiece, Out of the Past.

Since Out of the Past happens to be my favorite film, it's inevitable that I'll say that Against All Odds does not hold a candle to it. I've got to say, though, that I enjoyed Against All Odds so much more than I expected, and I think that it's one of the better noir remakes. It's up there with Sharky's Machine, which was a loose remake of Laura and which also starred Rachel Ward.

The descriptions of Against All Odds as a "sunlight noir" are spot-on, and this movie features some gorgeous tropical island settings that look fantastic in high definition. Jeff Bridges has one of the best roles of his career as an injured football star who is forced by circumstances to go into the "private detective" role played by Robert Mitchum in Out of the Past. James Woods does not come close to stepping into Kirk Douglas's shoes, because he lacks the smooth menace that Douglas possessed, but his role is perfect for the purposes of this particular 1980s sleaze update. Rachel Ward is quite gorgeous, and she lends a good 1980s vibe to the femme fatale concept.

One of the highlights of Against All Odds is the sight of noir legends Jane Greer and Richard Widmark standing side-by-side in a few scenes. I get the feeling that Greer's role was set up in this movie with the assumption that most viewers who have seen Out of the Past will have so much contempt for her character in that film that our impression of her in this remake is already set from first sight. It's pretty funny how things work out.

If you're up for some 1980s neo noir, so to speak, then you could do a lot worse than Against All Odds. It's a good film that is made all the better by the Blu-ray format.

Watched Out of the Past followed by Against All Odds awhile back. "Does not hold a candle" sums it up for me. Big Jeff Bridges fan, but could not buy the pro football slash Chinatown angle. Still think the 4.5 rating for Against All Odds here at Blu-ray.com is way to generous.

They really, really, really need to get the Wyler/Davis norir masterpiece The Letter out there, especially since the DVD is so inexplicably pricy (OOP?)

I watched the BLU for Against All Odds a few weeks after the Out of the Past release. For a remake some of it didn't click well but the 80's seemed to be filled with these hot summer color noirs. For the most part it was entertaining and not as bad as it could have been. like some classic Jeff Bridges I forgot how built he was back in the day.

On side note I watched the DVD for Dangerous Crossing last nite and I really
Enjoyed it great cast and score. Liked just letting RH story flow. I wish FOX would issue a Noir BLU box set with about 5-6 titles per volume. I'd prefer single releases but it is probably more cost efficient do do sets. if it ever happens.

That poster of bridges making out with whoever that is on the beach always scared me away but it does sound intriguing.

Just watched the DVD for VICKI

Not the greatest film but decent for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Decent cast with a whodunit channeling Laura in some respects. Jean Peters is always good to see in films, love her in Niagara that also has Max Showalter playing her husband.

"Vicki" (1953) is the second adaptation of the Steve Fisher novel I Wake Up Screaming. The first adaptation of the novel resulted in the noir film "I Wake Up Screaming" (1942), which most noir authors rate a much better film.

Thanks for the info on Vicki, I wasn't aware. I now have I Wake up Screaming DVD on my wish list.

Just watched Daisy Kenyon for the second time, first time was when the DVD was first released so I had forgotten much of the film.

16237_large.jpg

This is one film that could use some remastering and a HD Blu upgrade. I love Dana Andrews in this film and Daisy is a great character for Joan Crawford. Daisy seems to be a woman every man wants but can't own. Sounds like a old lurid movie poster tagline. In essence she is a woman dickmatized, and in the end nearly just burnt out.

All joking aside the storyline has a frankness to it that with the subject matter is handled very well and surprising it made it to the screen as it did. Side note you'd almost think the movie would end when
[Show spoiler]Daisy flips her car. Most films where people commit sins seem to end this way, but it becomes a moment of clarity which is nice because in the end she just needed to chill out for a moment.

Yeah, but this site gave 50 Shades of Shit a 2/5 and a RENT IT. That movie deserves nothing higher than a 0 and a KILL YOURSELF IF YOU LIKE IT.

Since it's looking like Against All Odds isn't going to get a Blu-ray release in the UK and Europe (has there been a Blu-ray release in Europe?), will probably get the US Blu-ray release, but keep the UK DVD release as I think it has the music videos among the extras.
