It is without a doubt a film noir, with or without Widmark. A dark tale of a psychologically fractured character making poor choices in an urban environment, with supplemental characters of hotel workers and nightclub singers. There's precious little here that's not standard noir fare

Art is of course subjective, but I think you should look closer at the work if you think a 5 year old could do better. The artwork is completely hand-drawn with graphite pencils.

Greg Ruth, the artist behind the work actually won the Gold Spectrum Award for the design in the "Advertising" category.

The original drawing is actually up for sale at his site. You can see close-up pics of the drawing.

It is just the kind of artwork that makes you want to ignore the Blu-ray in a store and it doesn't even make me think of how beautiful this movie is shot. A 5 year old would have been smart enough to go over the original artwork and choose the best looking poster.

Much better.
I don't like the Criterion cover art, either.
Criterion's covers are increasingly not to my taste, but I say that about a lot of current one-sheets, too.

The Moonrise cover isn't great, but when it comes to Criterion covers it's a masterpiece next to Tom Jones's.

Nice

I ordered it along with I, Jane Doe during DD's flash sale yesterday.

Don’t think so....but I’ve just read a few reviews and it sounds pretty good. According to the Noir of the Week blog, all home video releases of it have been cut by 15 minutes. Have you seen the full length (95 min) version?

Yes, I've seen the 95 minute version.

It is currently available on E-Bay (a pretty nice bootleg copy)

Saw "Nightmare Alley" dual-format limited edition forthcoming on Amazon UK. World blu-ray premiere to be released Oct 29, 2018. Doesn't specify region, but may be Region B only. I've been waiting or this one forever.

It's being released by Signal One Entertainment a UK Boutique. The encode is being done by David Mackenzie and as part of S1's deal with Fox is Region B locked.

Hope this helps.

Yet another noir that I'm gonna have to import because I can't wait for an eventual Region A release. Not a complaint... the UK noirs usually have better cover art.

Look forward to the bluray.
Region coding is not a problem.
