I'm thinking either Criterion or Shout. But if I can get this version first, I'm going for it because it helps support a fledgling imprint I want to succeed, especially since they're also bringing out another four-film noir box set with Detective Story (1951).

Can you order directly from imprint like you can with Eureka and Indicator? I would certainly be interested in that noir box set you just mentioned.

You could also order from Base or Zavvi (though Base is much better, in my experience, on pricing and packaging).

They do offer direct. Shipping is 20 AUS for just one item.

You can, but it's cheaper to buy from JB HiFi.

You can also import via DeepDiscount.
Currently, their prices for Imprint titles run approx USD26 (+ tax but free shipping over USD25)

It sounds like Imprint expects this to go OOP before that happens.

I have had 4 films in my wish list on Amazon for quite awhile but have not bought them yet because of lack of subtitles but I may go ahead just get them anyway. They are Cry Vengeance, Appointment with Danger, The Chase(1946) and The Crooked Way.

Any thoughts on these even though they are not top tier noir? thanks

Cry Vengeance is an above average The Big Heat knockoff but with some spectacular location cinematography of Ketchikan, Alaska.

Worth a watch for sure but don’t expect a noir classic.

I would consider these all mid-tier noirs. They're not classics, but each has something to recommend it. For example, as was previously mentioned, Cry Vengeance was shot on location in Alaska, which makes it a unique film.

This is awesome. Didn't even know this was coming. I'm region-free in US, so I'm thinking of pre-ordering, but I'm not familiar with this label. Any theories whether it will come down in price? Doesn't appear to be a limited edition, but I tend to pre-order on smaller label releases because I'm afraid they'll run out.

This release (as well as the other Imprint titles) will have both limited and standard releases. The first 1500 copies with have a slipcover, which will be dropped for all subsequent pressings.

Incorrect. Not all titles will get standard releases.

I haven't read that in any of the press releases, but I could have missed it. What's the sourcing for this? And which ones are not getting standard releases? Because from what I can tell, the only limited element is the slipcover. This is from their website:

All first pressings of each release will have strictly limited-edition deluxe packaging.

I just bit the bullet and forked over the $40 to pre-order the Australian "Sorry, Wrong Number" on Amazon. Says it will be available in a few weeks, so hopefully it will arrive before Christmas.

Not trying to be enabler when times are tough with regards to spending, but really I highly recommend all four of these. No well rounded NOIR collection should be without the second feature B titles as often these can be just as intriguing and entertaining as the more heralded entries in the canon. Of course, I'm biased as I never pass up an opportunity to own rare titles from any given genre/style, no matter their pedigree or lack of same thereof. I just wait for sales and discounts and then go to town, whether I know anything about the films or not. In a way it evokes my childhood and teen years when I would sneak up late, even on school nights, and watch anything and everything on the Late Late Show. In those days that was the only way to see older movies.

So I encourage you to sample as much as possible with an open imagination if and when you can afford to do so. Some will work, some may not, but none should ever be a waste of time when you just plain love the art of film. In short, try to get all four of these NOIR titles and have no regrets!

I would recommend all 4 for sure, Cry Vengeance and The Crooked Way particularly

FYI - this changed today. Amazon UK has reintroduced shipping to the US, but currently only for in-stock items and only uisng the "Global Priority" shipping option. This is expensive for one title (approx. 8.00 GBP shipping), but is more cost-effective for multiple items (I buy a lot of Region B, so did a trial-run for a cart with 12 titles and the shipping was 16.00 GBP).

My interpretation: titles that take forever to sell out of their limited editions won't be repressed, but titles that show the market will continue to support subsequent print runs will.
