Thank you for that info.

I just ordered some titles at Twilight Time since they are closing their doors. Good sale going on.

Also thank you to Professor Echo and trentdiesel for your recommendations.

Did you see John_Drake post that it's available for $26 from deepdiscount? Just enough for free shipping.

Not surprised they're closing. Prices were always ridiculous.

Boom! I just pulled the trigger on Sorry, Wrong Number.

I was initially going to blow this one off, since I figure that it's just a matter of time before it gets a domestic release, but, for the above price, I figure what the hey... I've always wanted to see this film noir.

I watched it a few months ago before it expired from The Criterion Channel. My quick thoughts from the Channel thread:

Starring my girl Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster, Sorry, Wrong Number is about a housewife and drugstore heiress who is accidentally connected to a wrong number and overhears a murder plot.

The rest of the film unfolds with a series of phone calls, which lead to flashbacks giving us more information about the characters and mystery. It's hard to say more without spoiling it.

Stanwyck is mostly confined to bed and the phone but still manages to deliver a larger-than-life performance. She was deservedly nominated for an Oscar.

DaBargainHunta's Decree: I enjoyed Baby Face, Night Nurse, and the legendary Double Indemnity more, but this is still a nice little gem worth seeking out.

I'm sure most of us already know this, but Twilight Time is closing up shop, which means all of their noir releases are going out of print. They currently have two titles on https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/ still available for $11.95 each:

Inferno 3-D: https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/i...3d-2d-blu-ray/
Whirlpool: https://www.twilighttimemovies.com/whirlpool-blu-ray/

You can either pick these up now on the cheap or pay out the nose later.

Inferno is long gone. Sold out I think the first day. But Whirlpool is still available.

^One that I'm planning on going back for soon is The River's Edge, which I had never heard of until recently. Seems like it's got a lot in common with Inferno as far as being survivalist noir in the desert.

And I do recommend the two you mentioned.

That's odd. It was still there when I posted. I wonder if they found a few and put them up, and then they sold out quickly.

Not so fast. It turns out that Deep Discount DVD never actually got my order for some reason. Their site has so many weird quirks. My Paypal order went through, and the money left my bank account, but then the money showed up back in my bank account, I never got a confirmation email, and Deep Discount did not respond when I contacted them. I'll buy it from Bull Moose instead.

The River’s Edge is great, Ray Milland at his smarmy, evil best. It’s also a Fox film, so get it now or get it never.

If you're region free, Whirlpool is available as part of the Otto Preminger collection. Still available at Amazon UK.

There are lots of noir sets from labels like Kino and Mill Creek. What is the best of these? Thinking of getting one.

Three Noir Archive sets are must for me. If I have to pick one, it's Noir Archive Volume 1: 1944-1954 since it has THE BLACK BOOK a.k.a. REIGN OF TERROR (1949).

Definitely.

Also, to go along with THE BLACK BOOK, I highly recommend the John Alton Film Noir Collection, featuring 3 more of his collaborations with director Anthony Mann.

That's a tough one -- like latehong above said, Noir Archive I has The Black Book, and it also has Address Unknown which is great (and my favorite of the set)

Then you have Noir Archive II that has The Long Haul and The Lineup which are really great too.

It's not in print anymore but Arrow's Film noir set is probably the most solid. Luckily, they're both region-free and available as individual releases: The Dark Mirror, The Big Combo, Force of Evil & Secret Beyond the Door.

And if you're region-free or B-enabled, The BFI Otto Preminger Noir set is great, featuring Where the Sidewalk Ends, Fallen Angel & Whirlpool.

I feel like none of the Blu-ray noir box sets are good starter packs if you're new to noir or only gonna own a few noir titles. With DVD we had some killer box sets. The Warner sets, Universal set, Columbia sets. With Blu-ray I think you're better off getting individual titles first, then moving to the box sets to branch out a little more.

I’m definitely not new to noir. I have several in my collection. Looking to get more of the ones Olive and Kino have released.
