This packaging looks better than the film. (Don't get me wrong, the film is very solid, but this packaging is cool).

VCI will be releasing the film Impact (1949) tentatively on January 21st. No details on extras yet, just cover art which VCI somehow decided to completely ruin (in typical VCI fashion) with huge Film Noir text going down the side.

Quote:
Millionaire industrialist, Walter Willams, has it all, power, money, success and a supposed, idyllic life with his young, beautiful wife, Irene. When a business trip to Denver arises, Walter decides to take his wife along, hoping to turn the scenic ride over the mountains via Lake Tahoe into a mini vacation. However, things begin to go awry when Irene claims she's ill and can't go but insists Walter give a ride to her poor "cousin," who is hitchhiking his way home to Evanston, Illinois. The "cousin" is actually Irene's lover, Jim Torrence, and he is there to carry out his and Irene's plot to murder Walter. But in a twist of fate, after Jim's attack upon Walter, and while Jim is fleeing the scene, he is killed in a head-on collision. Once the bloodied, very shaken, and very bewildered Walter awakens and pieces together what all had happened, he claims amnesia and goes into hiding, with the hope of somehow bringing Irene to justice.

I never understood why companies don't use poster art. And just that. Nice, simple, and rarely controversial

Wanted to see Impact (1949) released on Criterion maybe in a double feature!
VCI ?! Well, I'm still in for it. Hope they do it justice.

I personally feel VCI is making a concerted effort to turn around their reputation as the Alpha Video of bluray. Their recent efforts have been extremely good, imho. Their older releases were fair to poor. I think they had major management changes sometime last year. We will see!

The recent upgrade of Dick Tracy's from DVD to Blu-ray by VCI looks pretty good!

Here's a brief mention of RIGHT HAND OF THE DEVIL, which appears on the Film Masters' Blu-ray of DOOR TO DOOR MANIAC:

I had never seen RIGHT HAND OF THE DEVIL, which is definitely a crime film. There is a shocking image during the climax which would have been appropriate for a Jim Thompson novel. Although the plot twist at the end is somewhat predictable, that particular image is a real "Gotcha!" moment.

IMPACT is a very fun noir. Donlevy is a very underrated actor from that era of Hollywood, imo.

Been enjoying the airing of a fifties television series Brian Donlevy did, called Dangerous Assignment (it's being shown on Talking Pictures TV here). Currently, they're about three quarters through the season). It's been entertaining (and interesting seeing how many characters are giving Donlevy's character Steve Mitchell his mission (one of those characters was played by actor John Dehner).

Surely that obnoxious "FILM NOIR" text won't be on the actual packaging, though...right? Sigh. It is VCI, though...

Surely you're not the 3rd person on this page to quote that post without using spoiler tags, right?

Eh. Sorry. Honestly, didn't even notice.
I get why that can be an annoyance and will keep it in mind in the future.

But, seriously...that text along the side is ridiculous.
