Yes, they did. Not sure why they would.

I do see "This page is having technical difficulties. Go back and try something else." not sure if that is meaningful or just a generic 404 error message. But it wasn't the traditional "page not found." Guess we will have to wait if it comes back up

I really like The Tin Star, though it's less 'noiry' than those you listed. It is Anthony Mann however, so there's definitely a little bit in there.

I emailed them earlier to let them know the Westerns tag wasn't there anymore, so I wonder if that was a factor in its return

Edit: Yep, here's the email responses, which was in my junk folder:

Hi there –

Great catch. I just cleaned up tags this weekend and removed western because I have a category of westerns, but I now realize that category might not be obvious to users. (you can get to it by clicking on the Western Noir page from the main menu on the top, and then right at the top of that page is a link to all the films that used to have the western tag.). But let me see if I can put back that tag without disrupting anything. Thanks for reaching out. - Mike

Actually, I just checked and that link no longer works, so I need to reinstate the tag. Doh! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. You should find the tag again within a few hours, tomorrow at the latest

Thanks for doing the Lord's work.

This has sent me down a rabbit hole. As expected, there are far more than 43 Western noirs.

Debating whether a couple of them I'm seeing on lists - like The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - are actual Western Noirs.

Not at all, it's listed in this thread because Imogen Sara Smith states in the description that it features "noirish shadows".

Yeah, I really wish it had films from different countries like the previous 3 volumes. It really would have made for sense to be the start of a new French Noir Collection series. Surely they have other upcoming films that would fit into such box sets. I'd contact Fran and suggest this, but I'm sure it's too late.

Question for the noir experts in the thread:

Is this noir?

The Seventh Cross (1944)

It's certainly shot like a noir, and IMDb identifies it as one, but - MAJOR SPOILERS! -
[Show spoiler]it has a "happy ending" - though how happy can it be really be when the other six men are dead and the Holocaust will rage on for nine more years?

IMDB's genre identifications are user contributed. I wouldn't ever go by those as definitive. It's not on Wikipedia's list of film noirs which has references to earlier noir books that list a particular film as noir with indications of a film's noir underpinnings. Wikipedia simply labels THE SEVENTH CROSS a "drama".

It also seems to me a war (or pre-War) prisoner escape movie. Nothing particularly noir about it other than the cinematography. The protagonist isn't doomed by his own mistakes, he's trying to escape being in a concentration camp--a pretty good idea if you ask me! I seriously don't see how it's any more noir than, say, THE MORTAL STORM or STALAG 17.

Did you just watch it on TCM too?

While it does have some noir elements in hindsight, it never crossed my mind while watching it. The paranoia and distrust do make it feel more noir tinged than an average prison escape movie
[Show spoiler](plus it’s narrated by a dead guy)
, but I wouldn’t consider it noir.

It only crossed my mind because it looks like a noir. And then the IMDb designation made me wonder. But it doesn't really play like a noir for me either.

What is the biggest Noir do we think hasn't hit blu-ray yet? Not your personal most wanted title but just biggest title. My most wanted is probably D.O.A or new restorations of The Red House and Kansas City Confidential but I am not sure what the biggest title is that hasn't been released. Dead Reckoning in the US I would think but it did get the Indicator release.

Not sure if they’re the biggest, but The Narrow Margin (1952) and Born to Kill (1947). D.O.A. would be high on my list as well— is there a problem with the existing film elements, or was that a rumor?

Stranger On The Third Floor as the first "true" noir has to be one of the bigger titles missing as well.

No one currently has access to what are seemingly the only high-quality elements that still exist. They're currently held by Wade Williams' estate.
