Lost Highway was on there already, and After Dark My Sweet, and Hustle were in the A-Z list, so I added the thumbnail for those. I think of the rest, Galveston may be added, but I'll have to look closer at the rest, and consider what others say as well.

If you watch Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) you'll find
that it meets 85% of the qualifications in OP #4. Definitively. Some
people dismiss it as a modern western, but it is NOT a modern
western. If it were, that would not preclude it from being a noir
since several westerns are now accepted in this thread as being
noir. Peckinpah did work in other genres, and made films that are
not remotely western (Straw Dogs, The Getaway, Killer Elite, The
Osterman Weekend).

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia is as much a noir as No
Country for Old Men, Counselor, Small Town Crime, and The
Killer Insider Me, except it's a darker film than those. If you
want me to get into the dynamics of the film, I can do that,
although it takes time to write it.

Warner Archive will be relaasing I Died A Thousand Times (1955) in September!

I Died a Thousand Times (1955)

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FMFY2WTL/

Quote:
Based on the Humphrey Bogart star-making classic High Sierra, I Died a Thousand Times brings the enveloping expanse of CinemaScope and a new color restoration to the gritty saga of old-timer Roy Mad Dog Earle (Jack Palance), just released from prison and leading nervous small-timers (Lee Marvin and Earl Holliman) on a resort heist fated not to go like clockwork. Soft-hearted Earle is so drawn to a crippled girl (Lori Nelson) that he pays for curative operation. But when things go wrong, it's a brassy dime-a-dance girl (Shelley Winters) who stands beside him. Veterans Lon Chaney and Mae Clarke and newcomers Dennis Hopper and Richard Davalos are featured in the top-flight cast. With a taut script by High Sierra novelist W.R. Burnett and a heart-pounding manhunt finale, I Died a Thousand Times is a rousing, memorable thriller. Newly remastered in High Definition for this Blu-ray release from 4K scans of the original camera negative.

Love your passion, king, but I don't think the Firestarter films classify as noir.

Firestarter: Flame Fatales

(unironically,I think that would be a great name for a new Firestarter film)

Of related interest ...

I've been assembling a new thread for a list of Proto Film Noir 1928-1940.

A problematic endeavor, but I'm enjoying it.

It includes European films.

If anyone has suggestions for films that should be included, whether on
blu-ray or not, feel free to message me.

The thread will be posted Sunday night.

Haven't seen it, but Imogen Sara Smith cites Renoir's La Bête Humaine as a “seminal proto-noir” in her Criterion Channel video on French poetic realism.

Do you have a link to that?

She's absolutely right. I put a couple of Renoir's in the list.

With some of the more recent suggestions in this thread you could make a case...

I wish there was a way to block Dailyan from seeing my posts.
12 years of snipes and personal put-downs from this troll is enough.

There are just two titles among the WAC's September lineup that I am interested in getting. One of those is I Died a Thousand Times. After reading the announcement, it went on my want list.

Last year (late summer), watched an airing on Talking Pictures of I Love Trouble. Really enjoyed it, partly down to the dialogue and how it was delivered. Seems right up Powerhouse Films/Indicator's street.

Just saw that Film Masters is putting out The Red House along with Kansas City Confidential. Really hoping that The Red House is from a better source than its previous blu-ray counterparts as they are rough in the eyes. Kansas City Confidential looked pretty good on the Film Detective release so just having a pressed disc of that I would be happy with but The Red House really needs a picture quality upgrade.

I'll probably buy this new Blu-ray anyway, but if only Film Masters could use the source material MGM used for their 2007 Kansas City Confidential DVD!

(DVD Beaver review)

from the site review of the 2016 Film Detective release:

Quote:
The film's negative (if it still exists) and any preservation element such as a fine grain master remain locked in MGM/UA's vaults, so that film prints are the only available source.
