After the screening I saw, a clip played with the locations in the film as they are today. Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, a lot of the buildings have been razed to make way for parking lots and the like. The other interesting tidbit--a fair amount of nighttime exterior shots were done in Los Angeles (which the SF crowd was more than happy to boo).

Some of the smaller studios films are just rotting away in a vault somewhere.
I also watched Journey into Fear. Very fun movie, great camera shots, especially the climax. It has that The Third Man vibe. Welles looked like he was having a good time playing the General. Yeah, the dirt and scratches were annoying. Would like Criterion to get a hold of this movie and do a nice restore job.

I watched The Glass Key and Laura this morning...

Then unfortunately, I had to go to work...but the DVR will catch Danger Signal and The Gangster for me to watch later.

Most of the others, I have on either Blu ray or DVD.

For those who haven't seen it, I highly recommend Nightmare Alley! It is Tyrone Power at his best!

Awe man, I don't get TCM for some reason. I just flipped to the station and it said it is not part of my package. I did not know it was a premium channel.

It is an upgrade for me with Cablevision as well...I added it when I signed up with them.

TCM and MLB were must haves!

This just doesn't make any sense to me though. I'm paying $85 a month for cable and I don't get TCM or Disney XD.

For someone without TCM right now...

Does anyone know what might be the best-quality version of Detour, whether streaming, downloadable, or DVD?

There are multiple versions on Amazon for streaming rental, one on Hulu, a few at the Internet Archive, a million on YouTube... and then there's the Alpha and Image DVDs. Anyone know which one might be the best quality available for this movie? I know it's public domain and most versions look pretty shoddy, but if there's one that looks/sounds better than most, I'd like to choose that one for this week's viewing.

I've seen it before, but that was ages ago. Eager to see it again!

Default DETOUR best version

I was told a little while ago that for DETOUR this was the best version on DVD

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00004W19C?...=IYGXKN8TUNW4M

the member also mentioned it could be possibly a DVD R Version but nothing on amazon states that currently. I added it to my wish list weeks back so I would know which version when I decided to buy it.

It's times like these I wish I had a DVR because I have to leave, today's line up is great and I am also interested to see if Detour is in HD. Like I said above, I was surprised with Murder My Sweet and just how "ready to go" it is. Olive films could have this out next month! I'm in for Gun Crazy tonight, I'm assuming theyre airing the HD master that is out on blu in France which I haven't picked up so this is another one that will be exciting to see in 1080.

Very cool movie, another exceptional performance by Charles Laughton and definitely in my top ten noirs.

Unfortunately it looks like they are broadcasting the DVD transfer of Gun Crazy. I wonder what the hold up is getting the HD one over here. I guess it's a combination of rights, money and interest. The DVD does look great and has a terrific commentary, but I've been tempted to import the blu many times.

That is indeed the best available edition. My copy is a pressed DVD. You can view a comparison of the different available versions here: link.

That's too bad. The French import is still expensive as hell, and the Spanish version is probably a bootleg of that and has lossy sound.
