That was certainly an odd decision by Criterion, especially given that when watching it, it's obvious from the copious empty space at the top of the frame that it was framed for widescreen projection.

Oh yeah I forgot about Riot being full-frame as well. The great "C" really has dropped the ball a few times. I personally feel they also did with the 64' Killers too, not to as great of an extent but feel they should have included both 1:33 and 1:85 like Arrow's release did and let the viewer decide which one to watch.

With Night and The City, Thieves' Highway will complete Jules Dassin's Film Noir on Blu-ray I believe.

Oh this is terrific news! I first discovered Dassin as many did when I saw Rififi and I've been a big fan ever since. This has instantly become one of my most anticipated releases!

With a new 4K restoration coming directly from Fox, lets hope a Criterion release isn't too far behind.

Knew this was coming but I still had a 'holy s***!' moment after it was actually announced. This is my fav Dassin, and one of my favourite films of all time. I'm absolutely thrilled it's coming from Arrow, and that next month brings Night and the City as well from Criterion. These are cream of the crop titles for me

Just watched The Big Clock. Wow that might be one of my favorite films from the 40s...and I love the 40s. Ray Milland is awesome as was Harry Morgan and Charles Laughton.

I've decided to watch Kiss Me Deadly this weekend (a wonderful film!), and I'm going to pick up Ride the Pink Horse from the library tomorrow, so I'll watch that one as well. I haven't heard of any of the films TCM will show tomorrow, sans Kiss Me Deadly, so I'll stick with the ones I've just mentioned.

Apparently this trailer doesn't do the film justice, but it's the only one with English subs I could find

It is a pity they aren't releasing Thieves Highway in the US too...

I love Dassin's Naked City and Brute Force on high on my list once they come onto Blu-ray....the Criterion DVDs are excellent!

The Killers (1946) - ah, celluloid never looked so good as noir! Look for two master-shots in this film: the opening credits shot as the two shadows creep upon the town, and the crane shot that follows the robbers in and out of the payroll heist.

The 1964 film is quite excellent in its own right but probably bears more resemblance to Bullitt than the shadowy Siodmak noir. How underrated is Don Siegel, though?

Early contender for release of the year:

Still think they should have included the 1:85 aspect ratio too on the 64' version like Arrow did, yeah I know it is not the exact OAR but it is still a nice option for the viewer and especially since it looks fine shown at 1:85. So for that reason I can't really say release of the year. I might have to give that to the upcoming Criterion 4K of Night and the City however...man I love that movie.

I've never seen STORM FEAR, although I admire Cornel Wilde's directorial efforts. Should I blind-buy it?

How many more Noirs that need to come out are going to be from Universal? I ask because after today they are on my **** list and I don't want to support anymore releases from them if I can help it.
