That was certainly an odd decision by Criterion, especially given that when watching it, it's obvious from the copious empty space at the top of the frame that it was framed for widescreen projection.

Oh yeah I forgot about Riot being full-frame as well. The great "C" really has dropped the ball a few times. I personally feel they also did with the 64' Killers too, not to as great of an extent but feel they should have included both 1:33 and 1:85 like Arrow's release did and let the viewer decide which one to watch.

With a new 4K restoration coming directly from Fox, lets hope a Criterion release isn't too far behind.

![]() [Show spoiler] Knew this was coming but I still had a 'holy s***!' moment after it was actually announced. This is my fav Dassin, and one of my favourite films of all time. I'm absolutely thrilled it's coming from Arrow, and that next month brings Night and the City as well from Criterion. These are cream of the crop titles for me |

I've decided to watch Kiss Me Deadly this weekend (a wonderful film!), and I'm going to pick up Ride the Pink Horse from the library tomorrow, so I'll watch that one as well. I haven't heard of any of the films TCM will show tomorrow, sans Kiss Me Deadly, so I'll stick with the ones I've just mentioned.

The Killers (1946) - ah, celluloid never looked so good as noir! Look for two master-shots in this film: the opening credits shot as the two shadows creep upon the town, and the crane shot that follows the robbers in and out of the payroll heist.
The 1964 film is quite excellent in its own right but probably bears more resemblance to Bullitt than the shadowy Siodmak noir. How underrated is Don Siegel, though? Early contender for release of the year: ![]() |

I've never seen STORM FEAR, although I admire Cornel Wilde's directorial efforts. Should I blind-buy it?
