Checking his Wikipedia page...take a look at which film garnered the most Raspberries...

I still haven't gotten an email saying I completed the course, but I just checked my email and my certificate was waiting for me! I'll have to get this printed somewhere, or at least get some higher quality printer paper of my own.

I'm glad you got it. I was concerned when you mentioned you didn't get the email. I will also look into getting this one printed on some nice paper, and putting it next to my other diplomas

That's fine -- Cruising was nominated for Worst Director and Worst Screenplay, while Sorcerer wasn't nominated for any Golden Raspberries. I wasn't trying to debate which film had the greatest negative impact on Friedkin's career. Clearly neither film helped him, at least not at time the time they were released.

Sorcerer is still an excellent movie, my favorite of his next to The Exorcist

I agree with you, I love Sorcerer. I own the digibook version of Sorcerer.

Of Friedkin's films, I put it behind only The Exorcist and French Connection.

No single film destroyed Friedkin's career, it was a string of commercial and critical failures starting with SORCERER, along with a reputation for being difficult and arrogant, which did him in.

In 1980 I spent a day with Friedkin and at that time he attributed most of the failure of SORCERER to not having a bigger star. Scheider's part was written for Steve McQueen, but it didn't pan out and Friedkin told me if it had, the movie would have been a big success. In the summer of 1977, STAR WARS was my least favorite movie and SORCERER my favorite. It took many years for critics and fans to catch up to SORCERER, but eventually they did. My only complaint about the Blu is that it doesn't include the trailer, which was directed by Friedkin and is one of the greatest trailers ever made.

I believe it's always available to do, you just won't qualify for a certificate.

The lectures and the readings are all still up and the quizzes too.

In a response to a question posted to their Facebook page, Twilight Time will be releasing Whirlpool (1949) starring Gene Tierney and directed by Otto Preminger (director of the incomparable Laura, also starring Gene Tierney). No release date, but it is coming at some point.

I have never seen Whirlpool, but have seen it listed as a psychological thriller- film noir in several publications and online.

Nice. That'll be yet another Twilight Time release I order at some point, and more Gene Tierney on Blu-ray is always a good thing.

I just came across this youtube top film noir list. It is well made; a noir junkies dream of scenes strung together like an extended trailer for the genre. While I can quibble about the relative rankings of the films, all of them belong or at least deserve a shot to be on it. A few notables are missing in my opinion, but I cannot deny it is a good list. After watching it, I am juiced and know I am going to be revisiting a few of my noir blu-rays this weekend. Good stuff.

This will definitely get your blood up about the glaring absence of In a Lonely Place and The Big Sleep on Blu-ray.

Oh, and this will definitely get your blood up about the glaring absence of In a Lonely Place and The Big Sleep on Blu-ray. We need these in high def now.

Oh, I never knew this had not been posted here otherwise I would have done so last year. It is a pretty solid list.
