I have to admit I'm not the biggest Eddie Mueller fan, but without his efforts to promote the genre and the festivals he spearheads, we would not be seeing many of these releases. Some of the superficial trendiness of noir irks me at times, but I need to get over myself because without it a lot of these virtually forgotten titles would never be seeing the light of day.

Say what you will about Muller but I've yet to listen to one of his commentary tracks and not be both entertained and enlightened.

My aversion to him is based more on a personal level and less on a professional one, garnered from encounters I've had with him over the years. But I am a charter member of the Foundation and support the work it does with many contributions. On that plane, I have no issues with him.

They're generally strong, but I really appreciated his commentary on Angel Face (1952).

I recently watched The Film Detective's release of Hollow Triumph (1948), and I have to say, I came away impressed. It has absolutely no DNR, so the grain is left intact, and it looks good to great throughout (only intermittent print damage). Given the company founder's track record with the DNR-laden Film Chest releases, I was skeptical, but this release delivers.

I really enjoyed Muller's cooperative audio commentary track with author James Ellroy for THE LINEUP (1958).

I'm not sure why WAC chose To not use original artwork for Key Largo

Not sure, but they had been using that art on their TCM line of DVD's prior to it. It is an odd decision. I wonder if it's too late to get them to change it

Raw Deal, in particular, is one top-notch film noir.
I just caught the last 15 minutes of Raw Deal on TCM. Holy crap! That has got to be the noir-est noir I've ever (partially) seen. The cinematography is amazing. Crazy angles, graphic use of light and shadow, and fog. Fantastic compositions. A good restoration of that would blow people's minds.

Raw Deal (Anthony Mann, 1948) The Big Clock - YouTube

Raw deal is definitely one of the best, John Alton's cinematography is stunning!

I'm not bothered, because Key Largo is a great movie and we're getting it on Blu-Ray....but yeah, that's about the laziest cover art I've ever seen. Bogie and Bacall in front of the ocean. It could just as easily be a toxic waste pond as Key Largo.

I know it it's unlikely to ever be on BD (unfortunately), but Alton's work on The Amazing Mr. X is phenomenal.

I recently watched The Dark Corner (1946) on Youtube. Before Lucille Ball found huge success on TV for her comedic talents, she did a few Noir films, and this is one of her best I think.

Wow, I never knew that about her. I don't think I've seen a non-comedic role from her. Will definitely have to check that one out.

Moody, insane, eerie; just all around fantastic. 4/4
The Night of the Hunter is in my top five favorite films. It's brilliant beyond compare.

Like a lot of 40s Noir, it's got beautiful B&W Cinematography. Clifton Webb is in it too. He pretty much plays the same character he did in Laura.
