Penton, do you have any articles handy that outline the motion issues that hdr causes? I remember you posting some in the past.

I think you’re referring to one of my previous posts about the
Ferry-Porter and Granit-Harper laws and as to how they could affect watching 24fps HDR content, i.e. sensitivity to flicker. I’d have to check my desktop computer when I get home for a comfortable reading reference for everyone. Will try to post for you later tonight or tomorrow, probably the later as I've got some recorded sports to catch up on.

ray, scroll down to the paragraph titled ‘Luminance, Screen Size, and Flicker Perception….. https://www.arris.com/globalassets/r...aper_final.pdf .

I must say though I find this pic of the retina (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post10500369) to be more detailed and colorful than that of Sean’s as it shows not only rods and cones which most hobbyists and video engineers are basically familiar with, but also, the rarely talked about ganglion cells, which are critical to central visual acuity as they get killed off when the pressure in the eye rises too high, too long.

Transformers: The Last Knight (2017) Superbowl Spot got released in 4K quality. Hopefully this is some kind of confirmation of a 4K master.

I read it's being filmed on the Alexa 65, usually those movies go with 4k masters right? Seems to be the trend.

Yes, and one of the main cameras.

With 3D involved, it's always unsure.

Wow! Thanks for the heads up on that Pieter! As far as I know, this is the very first time a major studio has officially released a trailer online in 4k (although not a full trailer, still impressive). I hope this is the start of a trend. And I'm also hoping that HDR trailers are next. Come to think of it, has anyone tried the YouTube version of this on a Chromecast Ultra or Samsung TV with YouTube HDR?

I can try tonight but that's 9 hours away so someone may beat me to it.

Is this trailer different than all the other crappy "4k" trailers on youtube? None of the have impressed me me and most of them never even got released in 4k.

Well I realize that talk is cheap….whereas, results speak (e.g., 14,000 views for this thread just since yesterday). But I was now kinda hoping for sleeping a little under thee old oak tree on a nice carpet of natural green grass in a pasture for a well deserved rest.

Someone tried for me on AVS. They said it was 4k SDR. But you can remove the quotation marks. This is real 4k posted on the official Paramount YouTube channel. (And the Vimeo version is on Michael Bay's official channel.) That's why I said it's the first official online 4k release. I know there's plenty of fake 4k trailers out there.

The 4K Transformers trailer looks fabuloso, and it's only 8-bit SDR 709.

Not really 4k related, but one of our sources of information, is shutting down message boards and IM service. IMBD.
